97 blazer 4.3 fuel problem!
I have a 97 blazer that I just bought for Sharon and if it sits for awhile it just will not start back....If you prime it, it will fire right up....So it's like the fuel is running back into the tank....Is a new fuel pump the answer?

I would check the fuel pressure first. It does sound like the pump or fuel pressure regulator.

How hard is the fuel preasure regulator to change?....We have a 98 with the same motor in it on our impound lot that has one.....It has been there long enough that it can be parted.....It was running just had all of the glass beat out of it.....

Re: 97 blazer 4.3 fuel problem!
sounds like a fuel volume issue. keep in mind these need at least 58PSI to start. I would have to check on the volume specs but without the $400 tester you have no way to check it. I bought mine from www.fuelsender.com
this is the one I got http://www.fuelsender.com/fuel_system_analyzer.html Last edited by 68C15; 05-28-2009 at 06:54 AM. |

Thanks Corn, but I do know that it is a fuel problem because you can prime it and it will fire right up.... |

Re: 97 blazer 4.3 fuel problem!
The fuel pressure regulator holds pressure in the line. If the diaphragm leaks, you will have poor fuel economy and a hard start issue if the vehicle sits. If the engine is turned off, it will restart fine. An easy way to check for a bad FPR is to pull the vacuum line off. If there is fuel in the line, its bad.

Re: 97 blazer 4.3 fuel problem!
problem is 96 and newer are SCPI meaning the injectors and regulator are mounted inside the upper intake. they don't have a vacuum hose, it gets its reference directly from the area around it. you can generally see them leaking by removing the throttle body and energizing the pump.
BTW, speaking of pumps. these have 2 impellers. one to fill the well and one to create pressure. I diagnose them by using the tester i mentioned before and also with a low amps probe clamped to the power wire. I look at the pump power wave form and check pump speed, current draw, and integrity of the commutator. |
