Coolant Capacity
Does anyone know off-hand what the approximate coolant capacity is on our trucks. I can't find it in my service manual anywhere. BTW, stock radiator, 1/2 ton, uhhh what else...... Thanks in advance.

Re: Coolant Capacity
It varies depending upon engine & application.
Anywhere from about 12 1/4 qts for a 250 c.i., I-6; to nearly 20 1/2 qts. for a 400 c.i. with a HD cooling system What I do with an empty cooling system is dump in 1 gal. of antifreeze followed by 1 gal. of distilled water. Then I use the empty antifreeze jug to mix a 50:50% ratio of antifreeze to water to top things off.

Re: Coolant Capacity
^^ Yup. I seem to recall my 350 has about 4 gallon capacity -- I have always used 2 gallons of Prestone followed by enough water to fill the system, then I add 50/50 mix as required to the overflow jug.
