Need advice on this serpetine belt purchase, quick please
I have an oppurtunity to buy a complete belt system from a 95-96 chevy truck with a 8 cyl. Alt, power steering pump, brackets, pulleys, etc for $200. My engine in my truck does have the 3 bolt heads. Is this the best set up for me, or do I need to look else where. I am gioig to the local pull-a-part tomtorrow for other parts. Should I look for something else? Need advice ASAP please.

Keep in mind you'll need a new water pump (reverse rotation) if you do the swap.

OK Thanks I will make sure and get the water pump from the later model motor as well. My engine in my 79 truck is the 88 and up 350 with the 3 hole heads.
Any other opinions? |

So this is a Vortec serpentine swap? Would a TBI engine Serpentine work? I have the whole set up sitting on a motor I pulled that I can throw on the 82 if it will work.

I have Vortec heads on my engine with a serpentine setup. I bought mine from a local Chevy dealer. It came from the C1500 trucks and I believe it's the year your asking about. I'll get some pics tomorrow.

Re: Need advice on this serpetine belt purchase, quick please
I just put a Serp setup on my truck. Make sure the fan blades face the correct direction. Mine was running at 245f because the fan blades faced the wrog direction. To correct it I got an Electric Fan setup from a 90's Ford Windstar. Bought a harness to wire it in at Auto Zone. Fans were 50 at the junkyard and 30 for the harness. Serp setup is off an Oldsmobile Brevada 4.3L V6. I got it at pick your part on a 50% off weekend for 60 or 80. Got the brackets, bolts, ac comp and alt. I bought a new water pump and new alternator since the JY one was bad. Used my stock power steering pump and bought the AC comp at the junkyard as well. Haven't hooked the ac up yet to see if it works.

Re: Need advice on this serpetine belt purchase, quick please
Thanks. That is what I needed. I am going to get it. Junkyard guy says the motor ran, and he guarantees the alt, water and power steering pumps for 90 days. The truck it is in had 155,000 miles. That is the route I will go. Will also look into the fan issue. Thanks again guys.

Thats a good idea on the Windstar fans. Does it cool well with those fans? I have some of those in stock at work.

The wiring adapter from Auto Zone really helped with the install. You can adjust the temp from 150 to 205 on the mini controller. Overall I couldn't be happier about them and for a total of $90 invested in the project I think it was worth it. |

Do you have any part numbers on the wiring adaptor?
