Windshield trim and rubber?

There was a thread awhile ago about the different style and years of windshield trim and I can't seem to find it. I've got a '71 with the stainless trim around the window, and I need a new gasket. I remember in the other thread something about getting either a '67-'70 or the '71-'72 year because one was easier. Anyone have any info on which one I should get? I need to call Tim Christian soon to order these and want to get the right one the first time. Thanks - Chad

That stainless trim is a bear to get back into that gasket, I just went with the plain jane gasket, sometimes less is more on certain trucks, My trim is in good shape if you need a set for a 71

I had to replace my windshield that had the trim in it, ordered the trim and gasket, had it installed and it leaked from day one. ended up going with the regular gasket also... It really doesn't look much different to me, and I really enjoy my floor board not filling up with water when I was my truck...

You need the 71-72 rubber. The stainless trim is I believe shorter on the 71-72 and I think is easier to install. The rubber is made for the different lengths (depth) of the stainless backing(mounting). The shorter depth of the stainless might go in the longer rubber, but I am not sure if it stays in properly. If you had the two side by side you would know exactly what the difference is. There is probably a thread on here. If you buy NOS, make sure you have the correct one as there are two part numbers. If I remember, I had the stainless in the rubber before we installed the windshield.

I put the trim back in my '71 and I didn't find it any harder to install than the non trim ones. Whether it leaks or not I don't know, I will probably find out this weekend when I go to the 67-72chevytrucks.com Midwest Board Meet in Kirksville, Missouri....Just make sure you have the correct gasket for your trim and plenty of help (at least 3 people).

There was an article I saved from last month about installing the trim on the front windshield. I saved it because it mentioned that there are 2 types of trim, and different seals for each.

Thanks for the help guys. I think I found the info I needed. I'm going to have a glass company install it. They said $200 for new windshield installed if I supply the rubber. I didn't ask if the install the trim with it also. I guess I;ll find out when the time comes. I decided to paint my dash, and its turned into a full cab strip down with removing glass and all......I'll post some pics later. I think I have to go to the doctor for this. I start something simple and it goes on and on and on and on.......

do you guys use a piece of rope to install your glass? a ole boy showed me that trick once works real slick!

Use sash cord and some silicone spray,a cotter pin removal tool also helps for the corners. You can pat the glass in as you pull the rope but don't hit too hard and never use a fist,only an open hand.When you put the rope in the pinchweld groove in the rubber start at the center at the bottom,wrap it around and twist it together ,that way when you start to pull, it will get the rubber started easily.The chrome mouldings only work with the gasket meant for them.71-72 works with that gasket for the 71-72, but will interchange with any year cab as long as the gasket is for that moulding.
