1970 Chevy C10 with a 454 What do you think

I have been looking for 67-72 trucks all over Phoenix, vegas, and Ca. I have found uite a few but want the perfect platform to start with.

I drove a guys truck and looked at it today. It however did not run very well. here the plus+
THe body seemed fairly in good condition. Paint was ugly but no rust seemed to be involved. The body would need to be sanded down and finished off. Both rockers seemed to have no rust on them at all. Is there a better way to tell with a painted truck?
The truck was an original 350 truck but a 454 is in the truck ot just runs CRAPPY!!! pedal to the floor and it goes NO WHERE! not that big of a deal as I would be buying this truck for a straight clean body, not for the motor. Ill rebuild it.
It had power steering but it seemed to be added on later. The inner fender on the drivers side seemed to be trimmed to clear the pump. Is this normal? anyone know? had a 4" notch cut into it.
Tailgate is shot and a small dent in the bed side. Nothing a little body work cannot take care of.
The drip rails seem fine but once again the paint could hide something.
The doors are good but they drilled holes for a 6x9 and 6 1/2" speaker... so doors will need replacing to make look good or a patch job. what do you recommend?
Oh and it is drum all the way around and the first 3 inches of pedal was nothing then it began to stop. This normal for these trucks? seems odd.
anyways. He said he would take 4k for this truck, what do you think from these crappy pics?

if it needs paint and body and a rebuild to meet your standards, then I would think 4 k is too much to start off with, you can find that for 400.
The only way to be 100% sure on whats under the paint, is to get something with original paint
The cut for the power steering.... we can only guess, but it has an non original engine type and it has the wrong brackets and stuff. There's enough there to need to cause 'custom' fitting. We don't know if they put the engine in the right place, or if they even used proper type mounts. Without pics of the engine's ill fitting issues, we can only guess.

ill try and come up with some pics today and see what is there.

I dont know where your finding trucks for under 4k but it does not happen around here. Unless your buying a non running or non motor truck they just are not around here.

In fact a running truck that looks as though the body has no rust is near impossible to find under 5k around here.

The motor probably just needs a tune.It looks pretty decent from what I can see.

The truck doesn't look too bad in the pics. As far as no power I would check the filter sock at the end of the pickup tube (inside the tank), or filter at the carb inlet, OR any inline filters for blockage...

It looks ok at best I would offer 1,500 tops....if not keep looking there are several other trucks around for a cheaper price...Good Luck..

Re: 1970 Chevy C10 with a 454 What do you think

-Here's my take. Find what you want, check it out in all the usual places for rust, bargain for the best price, and buy it. If it's exactly what you want, then you can have peace of mind about it. But don't settle for something a little different than what you want because it's cheaper, you'll regret it later.
