New Radiator Issue

I'm installing a new 4 core radiator with new supports for a 4 core but it seems the radiator sits too high. The radiator seems to sit down as far as it can go, but there is about a 1 1/2" gap on the top support between it and when it needs to bolt to. Has anyone else run into this issue? David

to me it looks like the wrong top peices. i have a four core in mine and from the support the hold downs go straight out with little cups for the rubber. yours appear to dip down about a inch.

its not a very goo pics but the best i got. if you look close mine goes straighter out than yours.

I did some measuring and my old and new radiator are the same height. Also, the hardware seems to match, the only difference is the 4 core is longer. I really don't know what is causing it to not fit. Are the rubber retainers the same for the top and bottom? The only thing I can think of is the rubber retainers slots aren't deep enough.

Make sure the bottom rubbers are pushed all the way into the lower mount......

I purchased a new 4 core rad. I was trial fitting the rad in the rad core and had a similar problem. My top rad brackets look similar to yours. What I figured out was that the new rubber mounting cups I bought are bigger than the originals. I trial fitted the rad with the old rubber parts and got a much better fit. I am going to be looking for some old rubber mounting cups that are in good fit.

I had the same exact problem...I notched out the core surpport a bit where the bottom "holder" goes to allow it to sit down a bit further.....Not perfect but not too bad...also, once you start tightening down the top brackets it will seat in the rubber a bit too....

One other problem I had was the fins on the new radiator wasn't allowing the fan shroud to sit flat...so I had to grind them down on both sides as well!

Btw, my mounts were all original....it was all in the radiator....I had my original radiator there for comparison.

I had a similar problem, but I only removed everything for paint during my rebuild. After double checking everything, I just pushed down real hard to get the bots started then I bolted it a little at a time until the top brackets were level.

It's a fairly common thing. I also put a 4 row in mine with new insulators and brackets. Mine fit as yours at first but did sit down. The shroud would not bolt up on the 4 row rad. The thicker core spaced the shroud mounting points about 3/4" out. As I haven't found a shroud to fit a 4 row modding one might be an option, if I don't go with an electric fan.

yep, what most people said in the posts I found to be true. With everything put in the way it should it sticks up about an 1 ". Nothing I did would make it sit lower, so I just made some spacers and bolted it in. I have no idea why they make these with these dimensions as they seem to fit poorly for everyone. I also ditched the shroud as it would not fit at all. How do these run without fan shrouds? It is a stock 350, so do you think overheating will be an issue?

If you radiator was originally a smaller one, then your core support may not have the lower lip bent out like the one on a 4 core. The lower cups that holds the rubber mounts will catch and sit on that lip of your core support if it was not originally bent out. Not sure if this is part of the problem but it helped on mine.

I bent the lip out on the bottom and it sits perfectly flush. Even with that it sits about an 1 inch to high.
