first truck pull
I worked at a truck pull at the fair last night,(fire truck). It was fascinating!I'm an old drag racer so I'm watching, listening and asking a ton of questions as well as maintaining awareness of any misshaps, thank God there were none, I have lots of questions, why manual trans? where are they getting those long 4 link type bars? what are the rules? It seemed some had realy non aggressive tread for a dirt track, why not baja type tires or knobbys or something like that? what is a good site for these questions? I'd love to see up close pictures of different trucks. There was a fast(lack of a way to describe) truck in 4wd class with a 600c.i.+ engine that I'd love to have had in a drag truck! please enlighten me!

Re: first truck pull
My freind builds engines for them...they are meant to wrap up real tight, but they use HEAVY internals, not like a drag car. It is all about the tourqe, and they make alot. Also the trucks are HEAVY as H#!!.

Re: first truck pull
The thing I love about Truck and Tractor pulling when compared to other forms of racing is that there isn't any "test and tune" time that most guys can get. Every track pulls different, and every time the sled is set up it's tuned different, plus alsmot no one has a track and sled in their yard to test the vehicle on. You get to find out what your machine is going to do when you get hooked up to that sled. Kinda evens the playing field a bit.

Re: first truck pull
Round here we hook our trucks to farm machinery or our peterbuilts...to get an idea....we use the field next to the shop for our "track"

Re: first truck pull
Every club/ region seems to have their own ideas. What might work good on hard packed clay might not work on sandy loam. You have to run what works good on the tracks you pull on. As far as DOT tires go, TruXs STS or BFG All- Terrains are popular around here.
Very few guys run automatics anymore. A slipper clutch with custom gears in a SM465 4 speed, or better yet, quick change ProFab transfer case is the way to go. It allows you to run a "just right" ratio, and come out of the hole at the RPM you want for each different track condition/ sled setup. I made a run with my buddys truck last Saturday. First time in about 6 years. far more power than I've had under foot... the 8,200 RPM ride was a blast
