67 fun "facts" - I found this interesting
"Facts" is in quotes because I didn't anticipate this nor can I be sure the factory did this...but anyway
I'm building a BB/TH400 3/4 ton 2wd using a 67 frame that was originally a 327/TH400 truck with ram assist power steering. So I had to do the usual frame massage to dimple the front frame horn for the 68-up PS box and trim the upper frame rails for the BB tower mounts. I had anticipated having to drill the hole for the BB/TH400 shift linkage bracket as it is different than the small block version. Yet I found the hole already pre-drilled in the frame so that my BB/TH400 shift linkage lined up as per factory specs. The hole looked factory (as much as a hole can look that way ) Now we all know the BB/TH400 did not exist until 68, and this frame is an original Fremont CA 67 frame. 4x4 frames use a similar auto shift bracket, but no auto 4x4's were made until 1970. What gives? sure surprised me. FYI, there were no holes for the tranny crossmember to move back the 1/2 inch or so, I had to drill them

I can take some pics of the bracket installed if you need the "whole" story

Re: 67 fun "facts" - I found this interesting
That is the only reasonable possibility, but that means 1 of 2 things: 1. GM engineered the BB/Th400 combo around not having to drill another hole in the frame. 2. Coincidental luck? Also, why wouldn't the holes for the crossmember be there? The relative placement of the tranny would have to be identical in your scenario, unless the frame shifter bracket for the 305V6/th400 compensated for a more forward position. Probably beating a dead horse, just REALLY surprised by this

Excellent pun on the "whole" story. Even better was the fact that you did not tell anyone you intentionally made the pun.

pics
The upper left nut is the hole in question. The hole further to the left and the lower nut are the holes used by the th350 backet
