cleaning al. intake ?

am trying to clean al. intake that is still on the truck,gets gas and dirt build up,trying to find something to clean it with without going to pressure washer.I want that new look back

I have gone so far aas to use an aluminum wheel cleaner to clean the pores of the intake out. That was while it was on the motor. HOWEVER, you have to protect ANYTHING that is painted--due to the acid base.

I guess i'll try the purple power on my intake and post up before and afters . seems like the sand cast is rough , but i'll try it .

I can tell you from experience that any of the degreasers will work great. BUT!!! Don't use them if you have a shiny carb. It will be dull grey after you're done. Undiluted simple green and a 1" paintbrush with the bristles cut down will work wonders. And it won't dull the carb.

i'M A DUMBASS?? so now how do you get your carb shiny again?? yep used the purple power and it peeeld the paint off the block too???

Edelbrock reccomends some brand of Oxy clean stuff. Its on their website somewhere. Not sure if its for and installed intake however.

I've used that a bunch. good for cleaning out the carbon and it will make the outside look better, Won't make it look like new however but better

Easiest way will be to remove the carb, you might as well get it fully clean at this point. Use some Mothers aluminum polish (or similar), and painstakingly polish it back out. Q-tips will get you into all the little nooks, but a small felt cone on a dremel will get the job done quicker.

did I mention that I'm kinda lazy??? thats probably not going to happen on a DD..I was hoping for a mirical spray!!!...lmao...at least I'm honest about it..better odds of getting painted..at least its clean??

I also used a mag wheel cleaner on mine at one time. It worked but wasn't a perfect fix. I would not recomend it to anyone for just the reason stated above. The best and easiest way to clean one is take it off and sand blast it. Once you have it looking good have it clear coated.

You might keep one clean if you never drive your truck or you can go to one of these.

I have done the clear coat thing and you have to be careful of the type of paint that you choose. If you "rattle-can" the paint, the clear coat will turn slightly yellow after time. I have gone to just getting the intakes powder coated with a silver flake and that lasts for a long time.

The best thing I have done to clean one so far is glass bead blasting. Be sure you are using glass beads instead of sand though, I have heard sand tears it up really bad since its much more abrasive. Many people thought I got a new intake after they saw it. Here is some before and after pics.

If you have it off use acid ment to clean aluminum. For instance find a blue beacon truck wash and have them spray it with their aluminum acid. It will make it look like it was just bead blasted. Just don't leave it on too long or it can discolor in spots(Burn the aluminum and areas will be darker than others).
