Sandblasting the frame
How far do you guys break your chassis down when prepping for blasting? I removed the brake lines and fuel lines, any extra bolts and shocks. Have any of you had your suspension blasted as a whole intact on the frame? Whats the best way to go about this? I've never done a frame off and am full of questions.

you best bet would be to sandblast piece by piece wash down with acetone and prime. basicly thats the best way to do it if surface rust is any concern.
the whole rolling chassis could be done but might turn into a bear if you dont have a mega blaster a indoor shop and alot of time back to back.

If your doing a complete frame off...take it all the way down....You need to get all the dirt, grime & rust out of all those hidden areas....Also, no matter how careful you are that sand can easliy get into every crevise of an axle.... Here's post sandblasting - after powdercoat:

I would say it depends on just how nice and detailed you want it to be. I usually remove/disassemble everything that doesn't require a torch or plasma cutter Just remember every place where one part is attached to another, there is going to be dirt,grease and rust in that joint. It's easy to get carried away......

we pulled the motor crossmember out pre powder coat and blasting, but my rear frame was rusted, so we disassembled some of the rear shackle brackets as well and blasted behind them and decided to patch the frame where it was ate away. Trevor

My wife hates you by the way Trevor, your truck is the reason I decided to turn mine into a 4wd Back on topic, I was wondering about the motor crossmember, I think i'll pull it also, and maybe the transfer case mount? I was considering taking the rolling chassis to sandblasting, but since i'm replacing all the leafs when I raise it, I think i'll just take it dissasembled. The differentials are pretty rusty also.

Boy, I feel loved We left the transfer case crossmember in the frame to add rigidity to the frame in the center, but we took out the actual transfer case mounts to sandblast seperate. Trevor

Well, I removed the motor crossmember and it was just as rusted underneath as the rest of the frame (surface rust) So I think i'll remove the transfer case crossmember also at the blast shop. Got any updated pics of your truck Trevor? I am wondering where I am going to get pre-bent brake and fuel lines since LMC doesn't carry them?
