1972 power steering gear box on a 67 with no dimple in the frame

Some one wanted to see the other day that a power steering gear box would fit a 67 without shimming the box out or dimpling the frame. Here is mine

Got my attention, do you know if the power steering pumps are any different from 68-72? Trucks looking good by the way.

Im just learnin about these trucks....Too me that looks like a 68 and newer frame if I am not mistaken.....because of the raised bosses where the box bolts on.......someone correct me if I am wrong..........but what do I know.....
One question tho........what headers are you running and how low below the frame do they hang........Thanks

That's what I was thinking, too. The 67s without p.s. supposedly have a straight frame with no dimple.

Re: 1972 power steering gear box on a 67 with no dimple in the frame

It is a Straight frame there is no dimple. All frames have raised bosses like that. On 68 and newer there is a dimple in the frame where the bulge of the power steering box is.

Here are my headers, they hang just below the frame. My truck is dropped 5/7 and they are about 5 inches off of the ground http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HED-69096/

My 67 4wd does NOT have any raised bosses for the bolts, it is completely flat. I will be figuring out how to add it this fall, too hot right now, but I have been working on a 3/8 spacer.

Negative. Some early frames are dead flat without raised bosses.

The 4X4 chassis are different than the 2X4 chassis in 1967 and 1968. This is why you see the 4X4s without the raised areas for the steering gears. WES

Re: 1972 power steering gear box on a 67 with no dimple in the frame

jbristo,

I'm in the middle of this upgrade on my 67. My frame has raised bosses, but of course no dimple. I've been going between dimpling the frame and using spacers. Can you tell me exactly what year power steering gear you used? I would like more than anything to be able to bolt it up with no modification. Thanks!

Mine has the raised pads but no dimple. The steering box I got from cpp doesn't fit. I would love to know how to do it with out modifying the frame.

I bought a kit like this... kinda like adding spacers with more strength...
