Rear window seal
OK guys, I'm calling on the forum's brain trust. I need a new rear window seal, I realize there's a difference between the seals for regular windows and a slider. Now I'm told there's a difference in slider seals depending on a factory or non factory window. How the heck do you tell the difference?

i think a factorylooked more like a fulll piece, i cant explain it without pics, but my 87 has a non factory i beleive, pay attention to the top, theres a littler strip of metal with no glass, on the others, they go all the way to the top
factory, window frame and glass go to the top ![]() non-factory(i beleive), window doesnt curve or go all the way to the top, and has a strip up top ![]() |

I went back to an ebay seller I dealt with a couple years ago. Here's what he said................
"You can usually tell the factory sliders because their flange that fits in the rubber is about 3/8-1/2" thick. The aftermarket slider is made to the same thickness as the flat glass about 1/4". You can also look on your slider for a brand name. Some aftermarket companies would be CR Laurence, OWG, Prestige, Jackson Mfg."

I have never had an issue with the rear rubber when changing out rear windows. I always remove the rear slider and install flat glass back in the same rubber.

Sorry to dig up a old thread; did you figure out a gasket or use the stock one for your aftermarket slider? I picked a aftermarket one up without a gasket and am puzzled as to how to make it work.

As long as your original seal is not cracked or overly stiff, it will work......chances of that are slim, so I would start with a new one.
IIRC the only realy difference in the gaskets themselves is the some of them have a "locking strip" that fits into a groove in the rubber after it is all pulled it. I think that was a later year running change though. If yours doen't have it, don't worry about it. They are harder to deal with anyway.

I JUST changed mine from a slider to a flat glass and used the very same seal

I just changed mine out from flat to slider and used the same original seal.
