rear bumper license plate mounting

Both trucks I have purchased have had HEAVY DUTY rear bumpers. I have taken them off but now have a replacement rear bumper but no way to mount a license plate. How does it mount? what goes in the opening of the bumper?

I thought those plastic square nuts that you can get at any parts store go in the square holes, allowing you to screw your plate into it?
