Re: Scary suspension pics
Yikes! I have seen some pretty hacked up 4wd suspension pics. Those make you wonder what the heck they were thinking.
Post em up guys, just don't name names please.

Re: Scary suspension pics
They were thinking how cheap it was and they obviously didn't do any research prior to making modifications. Then they didn't think about the possible consequences of what could happen with their crappy work.
dgas, at least you recognize the shotty work and it's easily fixable. What did you say when you were looking at the truck to buy it?

Re: Scary suspension pics
"OOOOH MAN! What did you do? This whole suspension has to be scrapped and redone." Their faces fell like a stone. After 35 years of building street rods and muscle cars it took all of 3 seconds to spot all the screw ups. This is only my second truck, the first was a chopped bagged 41 Chevy PU. Front clip Mock up below everything else was done at this point.

Re: Scary suspension pics
The fix is easy enough, real easy if I wanted to go original. Chevy trucks are as common as nails here. Just go yank a rear out w springs (The gas wrench helps a bunch w that) and the next day swap them + be driving that night. Next day swap out the front springs for new- 3 days tops-done. But I have other than stock plans - A week maybe to get it rolling again my way. But understand I am no rookie as a fomer mechanic, drag + dirt racer and retired cert. welder. Electrics are factory w a GM AM/FM that works but not well. I see no evidence of any changes there. The lights, signals, heater, horn + wipers all work.

Re: Scary suspension pics
Here's a pic I took at ITB last year. Appeared to be somebody's attempt at an IRS.

Re: Scary suspension pics
Here's one of my front springs...the two pieces were sitting in my LCA...All four springs had been heated.
The worst of it was that the tranny crossmember had zero bolts holding it to the frame, there was only one bolt in the tranny mount and that had like two threads in it....and one motor mount fell off the block as we lifted it out of the truck (wasn't bolted to the engine or the crossmember) the other mount had one bolt to the engine but none to the crossmember. Don't know how it stayed together for the two drives I took before I started the frame off.
