Not always, the 72 custom deluxe highlanders had the wg side trim package without the wg tailgate band.

Re: Trivia Quiz, woodgrain or black?

In 71/72 GMC Sierra = Chevy Cheyenne and Sierra Grande = Cheyenne Super. That`s why some said Cheyenne or Cheyenne Super equipment on the SPID,same difference.

Here`s another trivia question:

What was the GMC = the CST in 69/70 with woodgrain, before the few Sierra Grandes popped up early? Was is still the custom, like in 67/68?

Re: Trivia Quiz, woodgrain or black?

bed wood isn't the topic, trim is the topic.
however, bed wood was painted black untill mid 68, then they started painting it body color.
On the Highlander package, I see nothing in any of my factory papers nor brochours saying anything about wood grain lower trim. Nor have I ever seen it on any trucks on here. A custom delux never came with woodgrain lower trim.
On the GMC trucks, if I am not mistaken, a Sierra was a CST/cheyenne and the Sierra Granande would have been a super, and the woodgrain trim rules follow the same rules as on chevy.

Re: Trivia Quiz, woodgrain or black?

I parted a 71 custom deluxe that had the lower woodgrain. I am not saying it was correct, but the truck seemed quite original yet.
How about a burb??? Would a custom deluxe burb have lower woodgrain since that was the top of the line for those?

Lm, as your reply was a direct response towards my previous post I went out in the yard and snapped some pics for you. Here are four 1972 custom deluxe highlanders all with wg trim and w/o tailgate wg bands, now you can say you have seen it on here. I have three other 72 highlander custom deluxes in my other storage yard and they are all the same as these four. While also being into these trucks a long time now I have learned not everything was put into the books and brochures.

Re: Trivia Quiz, woodgrain or black?

Hello fellow members and 67-72 truck owners. I have been wanting to do a formal intro but I have been waiting to take some pixs of my truck to post them. I'm not to good with the computer(besides surfing the web) But when I saw this post and it started to talk about the highlander option I wanted to know some info about it. I mean is this a rare option? I have a 72 lwb with a factory 350/350 Power steering, brakes, A/C and it had .O.(don't know why!)& the highlander option. Is this a truck that is worth keeping in original condition? or is it just another run of the mill truck? I was planning on doing a full bodyoff resto and was planning on putting the cheyenne trim. I'm not planning on leaving it completly stock I want to drop it and put some 20's. I was also wondering if anyone sells the highlander seat covers, mine where trashed and I replaced them with regular black one from LMC. Oh yeh mine has the wood trim without the wood tailgate band. Thanks Luis

Re: Trivia Quiz, woodgrain or black?

My K/20 Highlander had woodgrain trim.It was all original.

I asked about the GMC equivelent to the CST in 69/70 because I`m only aware of `70 Sierras. Were there`69 Sierras?I`ve onlyseen a few rare`70 Sierra Grandes.

Welcome to the board Luis, highlanders were a one year deal in 72 and not all that rare. They were all based of the custom deluxe and were produced in three different option packages, I have heard that they were more less just a marketing idea by chevrolet. If you want an original highlander brochure (pictured below) with pictures and descriptions of the three levels available, drop me a pm with your address and I will send you one at no charge. Have fun with your chevy!
