MPG on 307? Pretty sure I have to buy this truck.

I found this truck for sale close. 900 doallar says it runs but had sat a couple years and needs brake work. Looks pretty clean otherwise, awaiting more details. If it could get decent mileage and is in ok shape it would be awesome to have for a dd. My 406 71 GMC deffinitly wont be DD worthy MPG wise. Plus my current doesnt have PS, PB, or AC and this one does, all with an unbutcherd dash. Something tells me I need it

I see the truck comes with spare tires!

My son's 71 307 with AC and 3:07 rear gets 15-16 mpg on the highway.

Is that a 4 speed granny? I would think you would still be in the neighborhood of 10-12 mpg's. If the price is right then why not? I dont think you'll be finding an economical ride out of any of these v8 trucks though.

Re: MPG on 307? Pretty sure I have to buy this truck.

I built a 307 with an RV cam,HEI,1.94 valves and a 450cfm 4bbl in a`71 K/20 4spd with 4.57s and 14.50/37" tires.I got 13 mpg on the hiway.Put a small 4bbl spread bore on it for better mileage.I`d think steady 15 is likely in that truck.

Has to be better on the mpg than your current set up. I think I would have hooked up the tow chain and worried about mpg later. Plus it is a GMC you can never have enough 4 eyes

Re: MPG on 307? Pretty sure I have to buy this truck.

I have a 72 SWB 307, 4spd 3.08 truck. With the 307 it would get 14-15 mpg. It ran poor and the timing chain was about to fall off. I did a fresh up on the engine and stuck it in a 47 cj2a. With 5.38's it would get 12mpg. the 307 was replaced with a 6.2l diesel. I average 20mpg now.
