Re: Can't we require locations in ad titles??

You`re from Atlanta.Clos69 is from Ft. Worth. How did I know that?
Ok,you won`t find Buffalo Bottom on the map. But,you still know what state I`m in.Everyone should at least show that under their avatar. If I`m unfamiliar with the name I always check to see where they are located "and" how long they`ve been a member.I`ve just never had it be a problem.I know where the part is.I just get frustrated seeing "no shipping" on a far off part I want.Your suggestion won`t change that.

"Your suggestion won`t change that." What could it possibly hurt to require the location in the ad title?

Re: Can't we require locations in ad titles??

I understand your frustration. Your suggestion is a good one. I don't know if requiring it is the right solution, but the suggestion will hopefully be enough to get some sellers thinking. Now why wasn't your location in your title? Suggestions are only allowed from some states you know. You shipping costs for suggestions may be too high for me!! j/k

Re: Can't we require locations in ad titles??

Why require price and not location? These are the 2 pertinent issues-I dont want to have to open an ad to see that the seller lives in Obtuse, I just want to scroll down the page and see whats for sale and where is it located without having to click on the ad, and then the info may or may not be there.

1967 C/10 Hood $85 (GA)

just example

Good idea. Just put your state at the end of the title,... like this. (MO)

That is a good idea. How about just the state in subject line?

yes yes yes its ez and saves everyone time and energy

If an ad is posted w/o price, someone quickly replies that there must be a price in the ad.

But there isnt a way for users to edit subject lines, the state would have to be in the initial posting.

Admins just make the rule and delete the post that do not comply and they will repost with the location. Everytime!

Re: Can't we require locations in ad titles??

in a perfect world that would rock. Unfortunately we spend countless hours on here as it is. Not being an ass, but such as this post. It should be in site feedback as nothing is for sale in it. I did not move it so others would read all the posts and linked ones as well

To add us removing posts non stop to comply with a location, would add more hours then ya'll realize. We all have families and lives as well. The time spent to "piss" people off removing their posts would do nothing to solve the issue in the end.

Folks still post in wrong areas, post things they know they shouldn't etc. We do the best we can to keep up with it.

Any suggestions on a realistic solution would be awesome.

Please do not take offense to any of this. Just telling it like it is.

Re: Can't we require locations in ad titles??

While I understand that it would make it easier to scan the classifieds if there were locations in the titles, I still don't think it is a huge time saver. For instance, if I am looking for a part, say, a fender or a door, even if the guy says he is in Tennessee or Georgia, I'm still going to end up clicking on the link and reading the for sale info. Don't take this the wrong way but I mean, it can't take but a few seconds to figure out where someone is or if they're going to ship or not ship. I think that with as much time as the mods have to put in here to police this site as they do, to ad more hassle/work to them for the sake of saving just a little bit of time for the end user would be wrong. Question Re: Can't we require locations in ad titles??

Why is this in the parts section and why do we need new rules if we still cant follow the old ones, such as post in the correct forum. Not trying to be rude just wondering if this is really that big of a problem, maby i just have other things to worry about.

thanks, chris

Re: Can't we require locations in ad titles??

I dunno,I disagree.I bought over $10,000 in parts here my first year and many more since.I`ve sold alot, too. It has never even ocurred to me to be a problem. As far as the no shipping deal,it`s still the same.Either you`re close enough or not.How hard is it to ask location on the few parts with no shipping where the location isn`t already located below the avatar as it is on almost every member`s post.
The Trucks For Sale board is a different format and doesn`t show location. It "is" asked to post location in the title there. It also doesn`t let you know how long the seller has been on the site.I`m leary from buying a vehicle sight unseen from a new member. That`s more important to me.

Re: Can't we require locations in ad titles??

It would be kinda neat to be able to search using your zip code kind of like you can in the "trucks for sale" forum. I know that would probably require a totally different computer program though.

I feel your frustration in looking at every ad just to realize they are too far away though. And what sucks is I live in the middle of everywhere.
