I use 2 cans on an empty system. Overcharging will cause your front seal on the compressor to leak.

The refrigerant charge listed in the manual for R-12 is 3 lbs. 4 oz.
This equates to 4 1/3 cans @ 12 oz. per can. I use (4) cans of R-134 in the systems. If there are lots of bubbles in the site glass I add a tad more. Jim
