tall oil fill tube
I've got a 72 C20 4x4 with a 350 in it.The oil fill on the valve cover is a real pain to get to so I picked up a tall oil fill tube but I guess I need a different valve cover,as there is no hole for it in the one thats on it.Any suggestions? Thanks!

Re: tall oil fill tube
You say C20 and 4x4 in the same sentence, but neither are the same truck. I'm going to assume you meant K20 or CK20
As far as I know the intake style oil fill did not come in your year of truck. You could check out one of the aftermarket intake manifold companies, and see if they offer the early style manifold with a hole for the fill tube. I've seen Edlbrock, Weiand, and Offy with those, but that was years ago and I don't know if they still offer it. Or you could go with the OEM cast iron one? I have seen valve covers with a extended oil fill tube, and I think they cam out of full size vans.

Re: tall oil fill tube
the 4x4 trucks had a tall filler tube on the valve cover in 69 - 72. The intake fill was in 67/68.

Re: tall oil fill tube
Also, back in the olden days of iron men & wooden ships, GM had "screw in" oil filler caps. The "dogs" on the cap would line up with the slots on the valve cover & then tighten about 1/4 turn.
GM offered an after market "extension" tube that could be inserted in the valve cover & then the oil fill cap screwed into the "extension" tube. This prevented making a big mess when dumping oil into the engine.

Re: tall oil fill tube
What would be the problem with the metric funnel? My metric crescent wrenches work just fine.
I don't know which trucks had what kind of oil fillers. I put that extension on my '76 K5; my '72 C20 has a rubber 710 plug.

Re: tall oil fill tube
Here is a picture of the factory tall oil fill on my 4x4. It fits into the large hole on the two hole valve covers. There is a brace that fastens to the intake manifold.
The grommets are still available through NAPA and perhaps others. Jim
