Lower radiator hose

72 Suburban 350 engine.

Does anyone make the lower radiator hose with the metal wire inside of them?

Local places only carry ones without the wire. I want to use the original type, plus doesn't the wire keep the hose from collapsing?

Thanks

Re: Lower radiator hose

I have seen a lot of new hoses without the spring as well. You may have to find a used spring or springs out of a junkyard hose.
Yes...definitly want a spring in there.

Same here. I can't find one with a spring anymore. I transfer the spring from old to new. Everything is being made cheaper saddly.....

Re: Lower radiator hose

the spring isn't needed.
For the older guys, remember when you'd have to replace your hoses and belts every 2 or 3 years... now they last 100,000 miles.
You can buy springs seperatly though, saw them the other day at advance auto.

Re: Lower radiator hose

The spring stops the lower rad hose from collapsing stopping water circulation.

Re: Lower radiator hose

When the thermostat is closed, the waterpump is still trying to suck water out of the radiator. At high rpm the pump could suck hard enough to collapse the hose.
At least I think thats why the engineers decided to put it in there.

Re: Lower radiator hose

The guy at the local parts store said the hoses these days are much firmer and don't have a tendency to compress. Just wanted to get other opinions.

Thanks for the feedback.

With the spring it doesn't have a tendency to compress nor an ability.

Re: Lower radiator hose

I cant say that I've seen a hose ever get sucked shut, but I'll still put the spring in there. I dont think it offers any restriction.

Water pumps can't suck, they can only pump.
