Re: front spindles

IIRC it's about 3/4 in per side.I do know my lowering spindles(on a 68) moved the fronts out about 3/4-1 in each side.If you're going to run aftermarket wheels and haven't ordered them yet you could adjust by backspacing.

Re: front spindles

was looking at running the truck or vette ralleys, do you think these will be a problem? PanelDeLand, how much drop have you got in the front? im looking at a 2/4.

Re: front spindles

I bagged mine, which makes the lower control arms horizontal instead of angled a little, and dropped spindles and disk brakes. I gained almost an inch and a half per side.

Re: front spindles

I have a 2 1/2 spindle drop.IIRC someone mentioned that there is a vendor selling spindles or maybe spindles and arms that bring the wheels back in.I don't know where I read that so I wouldn't know where to search.
I can see the difference in mine but most people wouldn't know.I'm running 6 lug rallies and someday may swap to a steely with offsets to correct.

Re: front spindles

CPP now has spindles that will not kick out your wheels the additional 3/4" on either side. I saw a guy at Brothers truck show that was running them, and he said they were fantastic.

Re: front spindles

I've got 2" dropped spindles from ECE with 1.5" dropped springs. The wheels are 15x8 all around. I don't know the back-spacing. I wouldn't worry about the 3/4" unless you plan on running 20's.

any chance you have a pic of that I want to covert but have big dreams of having 20's some day and with as much drop as I have things are close now...If I put drop spindles I'm going to be into other issues ( like heater box and inner fenders) I like the idea now of dumping and still not rubbing ( tire size is 235/75/15 on stock 6 lug rallies)

Re: front spindles

In the end the 3/4" on each side (1.5" overall) isn't that big of a deal, but there's a lot of factors you must consider.

Tire Specs
Wheel Specs
Which year rearend you are running? (67-70 was narrower than the 71-72)

I recently dropped my truck 4.5" (2.5" drop spindle 2" drop spring) up front and I didn't rub with my 15x8 235 75R15's... however, they were a little to close for comfort for me. I was watching every pot hole to make sure I didn't bottom out on my inner/outer fenders. Also I didn't like the wide track from with a narrow rear end.

If you are going to go big wheels (20"+) then you can order your wheels with the correct BS to accomodate the change.

If you are going to run 5-lug setup, then you might consider upgrading your rearend as well.

Just a few things to consider...

Re: front spindles

i like the height and wheels security guy. 20's are out for me, not my style. just wanting the disk setup for better braking. the 3/4 inch looks like it wouldnt be a big deal. will i need 71-72 ball joints for factory spindles? or are they the same for all years?

Re: front spindles

When I put the ECE dropped spindles on my '69, then reinstalled the same 15x8 wheels, I noticed that they were jutting out into the opening and could contact the inside of the wheel opening w/o any real warning. So, I replaced the front wheels with 15x7's and no more interference.

When I put a set of Wheel Vintiques vette-style rallye wheels on it, I went to a 15x8 up front with a 4-inch backspace and a 15x10 on the back with a 5-inch backspace. I like the way it sat and the way it looked. Looking down the side of the truck let me see that they were well-placed in spite of the fact that the front track is wider than the rear wheel track.

Re: front spindles

well I found a deal if I can catch it on a set of 20's so I guess they will fit one way or another.... my only fear is the fronts and a 10" wide rim but we'll see soon enough if the wheels don't get sold I'm picking them up monday
