A/C compressor kicking on in "VENT" mode. Any ideas?

I just remembered that I have been meaning to post this for some time now. When I slide the lever to VENT, the compressor kicks on. It kicks on in any spot except for HEAT, which is correct, but it shouldn't be coming on for VENT though.

Any ideas what the problem is?

I don't think there is a problem, I believe it is supposed to work that way.

It shouldn't kick the compressor on in VENT though, that's the purpose of the VENT position, just to circulate outside air. At least that's the way it's been in every other AC equipped vehicle I've owned. I have double checked my Subaru and the Trailblazer, and neither of them kick in the compressor in the VENT position.

Bob, some vehicles are designed to run the a/c system to dry the air before it enters the vehicle. That is the only guess I have about that one.

Re: A/C compressor kicking on in "VENT" mode. Any ideas?

Hmmm, this is the only square I've had with AC, but none of my other vehicles have ever ran the compressor on vent. Defrost and bi-level I can see, since it has to run to dehumidify the air for the defroster. But everything I remember from school says the compressor should run in the AC mode, defrost mode, and bi-level/mix mode, but not on vent or floor mode.

True, didn't think about it that way. It should be working on defrost, etc. but to work while just blowing in fresh air from outside doesn't make much sense. Maybe you just need to ditch the whol system and sweat with the rest of us. Sorry I was no help.
