71' c20 rear bumper interchange question?
Hi there, I just wanted to know if the rear bumper on my 71' C20 3/4 ton camper special will interchange with the standard steel (chrome) bumper. I have included a pic of my current bumper, and a pic of the style of bumper that I like. Just wanted to know if this is an easy bolt on switch.
Thanks for the help! |

Yeah it will fit on your truck. You may have to get brackets but thats not a big deal. I THINK that all the rear bumpers are the same but your bumper probably wont interchange directly without different brackets.

Re: 71' c20 rear bumper interchange question?
I'll let you know in a couple days how it fits on my 68 3/4 Custom camper. I ordered mine from Brothers with the brackets listed for LB coils, I think it was part# 2000. They told me these work on the 2 wheel drive long beds with leafs also. Hopefully they're right. New chrome bumper to replace the back porch I had on it.

Well, i just re-read the post and yeah it is definitely a bolt on swap, I just did it earlier this year. Order the bumper you want and for you year and make sure you get the brackets and it should be a simple swap.

Re: 71' c20 rear bumper interchange question?
Oddly enough, I'm planning to do the same thing. I did some research and I found out that my big, old, ugly Barden bumper uses the same bolt holes on the frame as the optional factory "Sport bumper." Most if not all of these heavy utility bumpers have no side brackets as they don't need the support. Just buy a new set of inner and outer(Support) brackets and a bumper and you're ready to rock.

Re: 71' c20 rear bumper interchange question?
the chrome bumper uses different brackets than the step bumper plus you'll need the splash pans that go with the chrome sport bumper buy it is hust a bolt on deal// only problem is i've seen some of those step bumpers welded on to the frame

Re: 71' c20 rear bumper interchange question?
CDOWNS is right. Mine is bolted on thru the same holes in the frame as the "Sport bumper" brackets are but there is a small 5" bead on the bottom of the bracket welding the brackets to the frame. I figure I'll just take a die cutter and slit those welds to remove the old bumper. It should be mentioned that GM never made those old, heavy bumpers and if the sport bumper option wasn't ordered our trucks just came shipped with no rear bumper at all. Those heavy bumpers were all aftermarket made by several companies all over the US and installed by dealers/owners and are all different.
