Re: motorhome park ? need help
You can document our actual experience.I had a`70 Custom Camper/30 with no park.It doesn`t have to be a motorhome. The first TH400s installed in the C/30 had the park cog missing and no indicator on column. These were the first time autos were used in C/30s and mostly just in campers.

Re: motorhome park ? need help
Yeah, Ford tried jumping the gun with putting a Park cog on their heavier duty tranny's in the mid 60's. The problem? IT WOULDN'T STAY IN PARK! It would pop out and, because a lot of people don't set the E-brake, the truck went BYE BYE! In fact, it was so bad, they put a decal in the door jamb that stated the truck may not stay in park, so set the brake! Only Ford...
Long about '69 ish, Ford must have snuck a peak at a Chevy and got it straight... Last edited by 69GMCLonghorn; 09-09-2009 at 11:10 AM. |

Re: motorhome park ? need help
many of fords autos back then would pop out of park.
The reason any other truck builder makes them like this is the oposite reason, the INability to pull them out of park when on a slight or steep hill. The weight of the vehicle (and everything in it) is all pushing on that pawl and it basicly gets jammed. It's called torque lock. Some cars had issues with this too, I know the Chrysler 80's cars with the 2.2/auto would jam up on even the slightest of hills. |

Re: motorhome park ? need help
Are you talking about the van frontend motorhomes or the chassis motorhomes? The tilt column I just put into my 71 came from a chassis MH and it had park.

Just picked up a 1969 Custom Camper/30 with the motor home. I'll get a pic later, but it doesn't have "park."

Re: motorhome park ? need help
The other thing that people don't realize (touching back on getting it out of Park on a hill) is with ANY vehicle, it isn't meant to have the vehicle held in place with the parking pawl. The BRAKE is supposed to hold it. I have always set the brake first, THEN throw it in Park, in any vehicle. It takes a whopping 3/4 of a second...
