Moving engine back
So I'm moving my V8 in my '67 from the front mounts to the rear I6 mounts for better weight distribution and better access for working on the ancillaries.
Do I need to swap the mount towers from left to right and right to left? It seems to line up better that way. Will I need to drill a hole in the cross member for the lower bolt? There doesn't seem to be one in the right spot. Thanks! |

Re: Moving engine back
i moved mine back but used different towers, and still had to drill a hole in the crossmember for the stud/bolt.

Re: Moving engine back
I think you want to find a set of 6 cylinder frame mounts for a 250 engine for a true bolt in deal as they just don't move back, they are different. 292 mounts are is not what you want either, one is offset on the 292.

Re: Moving engine back
What Green Machine said, get the proper towers and you won't have to drill any holes. You need non 292 inline 6 towers. There are lots of them come up for sale on the parts board with pretty good regularity.

Re: Moving engine back
Not to hijack your thread, but I'm doing the opposite of you and have a question. I've got the straight 6 motor mounts and want to move the motor forward. I have tall valve covers and the are almost touching the firewall. I already have a set of the V8 motor mounts and am wondering how far forward they will move the engine?
