change them all at once. new plugs arent as efficient with old wires, they still have alot of resistance. check napa or autozone for hei upgrade kits, they are fairly cheap and wrok great. mark your wires locations too, set your timing and idle after you install everything.

Re: ok boys whats the plan

Go with the MSD high out put ignition module I put one in my truck and in my el camino it is a noticeable difference in the smoothness in idle.
Amazon.com: MSD Ignition 83645 Digital HEI... Amazon.com: MSD Ignition 83645 Digital HEI... <<<<< thats the one. It also has an ajustable rev limiter so you can have a stop and won't blow your **** up.

Forget MSD modules, I would reccomend the MSD tune up parts though - cap, rotor kit from O'Rielly/Kragen (screw AutoZone) and some Super Conductor wires.

Re: ok boys whats the plan

I like to run the new wires one at a time, and loosely set them on the terminals on the old cap, as a first step. And I use a Sharpie to put the cyl number on the end of the wire just as a backup.

Then I remove the new wires, and replace the cap/rotor as needed, and reattach the wires.

I find it rewarding to look in and see all the wires in their holders, not crossed or twisted.

Good luck with the project!

Re: ok boys whats the plan

1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2, that's your firing order. Memorize that...

If you know which one is number one on the cap (usually around the 5 o'clock position on an HEI cap), you can pretty much tear out the old and put in the new. Start from one and work around the cap clockwise. I always start from scratch..

Good luck!
