Angry Just when I thought my luck was changing......

this weekend we had new carpet layed in our basement. there is a 10" wide ledge about 4' off the floor. well, I layed my PRISTINE speed warning speedo on the ledge, with about 100 other miscellaneous items to get things out of the way for the installers. I haven't been down there until just now.....

guess what. the installers not only DROPPED the speedo, but they bent the face, broke the screws off that holds the face, popped the needle off, and LOST THE 3 COGS THAT'S VITAL TO THE WARNING MECHANISM!!!!!!!!!! and to make mattersd worse, that was the only thing screwed with!!

I was able to smooth the face out (not bad) and getting new face screws will be fairly easy, BUT the intermediate gear cogs between the speed warning needle and the adjuster will be impossible to find. I will more than likely have to buy another speedo or find the needle in a haystack of cogs to repair this one.

don't think for one moment that I am letting the installers/carpet company off the hook. the speedo was OBVIOUSLY broke and just layed back on the shelf in hopes that I'd never see it. I can accept a mistake, but this was blatent!

now comes the question. I know what I have in it, but it will cost more to repair it. how much should I go back to the carpet company for??

I'm rambling on but I am furious. I think several beers are now in my future....

Sorry to hear that Doug. Can't help ya on the repair cost, hope you get them to pay for it. Sounds like Nate and you both had something bad happen while you were gone. Sucks to be them when you talk to them.

If you need one of my spare speedos for parts let me know and I will send it out to you. They may not be a soeedwarning but may be interchangeable

Thanks,

Re: Just when I thought my luck was changing......

good question about the other speed warning devices, but I'd venture to say they don't. poopy!

primered, thanks for the offer my man, but the speed warning speedo has cogs and gears that's exclusive to itself.

Re: Just when I thought my luck was changing......

yes Boog, I can already hear it. however, we've spent close to 10k with this company, the least they could do is give me what I have in it?

Re: Just when I thought my luck was changing......

Take it to a speedometer repair place (Yes, they do exist) get a quote and if you have to sue them for the amount plus filing fees in a small claims court.

Sorry to hear about the turn of events Doug. I say make the company pay for what you have invested into this setup. That's why they have insurance.....

Don't forget the finger prints in case they said they never touched it. If they knocked it off...they had to pick it up and put it back on the ledge.

Not good mate...hope you get a happy end to it though. Shame you didn't see it before they got off the premises, once they've gone they will claim complete ignorance.

Re: Just when I thought my luck was changing......

Doug, sorry to hear about that. I know you looked for a speed warning for a long time. The faces on them brake off very easily due to the fact that the two screws that hold the face on are nylon instead of steel like on the regular speedos. I've found the nylon screws at Westlake Hardware but have only found them in white...I just used a permanent black marker on mine.
It would be nice to know if they dropped it before laying the carpet or after..if after those little plastic gears could be in the carpet somewhere??...if before..well thats not good!! I actually had one shipped to me once that the face had broken off in transit but luckily found the little cogs in the waded up newspaper.

Re: Just when I thought my luck was changing......

I may have a replacement speedo that's original, but needed some major t.l.c.

if I'm able to get it, you'll see one happy man..... and a certain board member with as many rep points as I give out at once!

Rob, I didn't realize that the screws were nylon.... but that makes sense now. we have a speedo shop here in KC that I wll go to when I'm looking for the screws. thanks for the heads up on Westlake! GOOD LORD, those thngs are delicate!!!

Oh I have a club participant hat for you and Pete. I'll drop them off next time I'm heading to Nebraska. nice seeing you and your wife again!!!
