Re: U bolts
my first choice is to blow them off with a torch, but if you don't have one a cutoff wheel in an angle grinder works OK. Slow, but OK. I've done it before. Be careful of kickback and be prepared for things to jump with a bang when the bolt separates and releases tension though.

Re: U bolts
I just did mine...or undid.
Had to get a cheater bar on an 18" breaker bar to make it a 30". I thought I was going to snap the breaker bar. Both feet on the pumpkin and about a 350lb deadlift AFTER soaking in PB blaster and torching with MAPP gas and they finally broke free. Then the fight was on. They were rusted solid in the trailing arms. Get out the BFH. |

Re: U bolts
Did mine several years ago. Soaked 'em with penetrating fluid, then used a big cheater pipe.

Re: U bolts
i took the nuts off, threaded them on barely and drove for days and the u bolts stayed rusted to the axle, still sticking out the trailing arms like i never touched them. beat the crap out of everything with all i had. still couldn't get the u bolts backed out the slightest bit.
then i got the idea i'll work around it and put the nuts back on. |

PB Blaster, a torch, and a cheater bar.

Re: U bolts
If you need or want to save them, soak with PB, use a cheater to try to slightly tighten them, then remove them. Some physics major could tell you why this works. It eludes me, but it does usually work...

Re: U bolts
i just cut them with a buzz wheel and use BFH to drive them down and out of the trailing arms// cheap enough to replace to not warrent reusing 40yo rusty stuff
