FNG Introduction

Ok guys, my first post here. I'll start with a little history. Had my first '60 short stepside when I was in high school, fixed it up a little bit drove it for about 3 years, traded it in and have missed it since. I've got a '65 Nova project and it's helped the withdrawls and the other day I found a guy willin' to trade me his 62 long fleetside for an 60 gal Husky compressor. I obviously took the deal. It's a little rough around the edges but a great fixer upper and will be my sons first truck. He's 5 now so I have some time.

My first question here is, on the '62 I've got single headlights with some lame trim bezels. What is needed to use the 60-61 dual headlights with the much better lookin' trim bezels? If I have to swap the entire grille, I'll just modify what I have to look a little more aggresive, than the dinner plate lookin' trim on it now.

Kenneth

Re: FNG Introduction

thanks, guys, glad to be here! The front susp will be comin' off and updated with '86 C10 hardware. I'm puttin a 305 V8 back together that I got for nothing so it will go in just to take place of the 235. I might pull the LS1 out of the Nova and stick in there, but may just build up a strong 350 for it. Or I may put in a 250 that I have. It's a reman long block, headers, offy intake, holley 390 cfm carb and HEI ign. Just not sure yet. What really struck me about this truck was all the glass is still crack free! One small chip on the windshield that I'll repair, but all great other than that. The other thing that stood out was that gawd awful trim on the headlights.

to swap out the grill /head lights you need the grill assembly and if possible thw wiring harnness, should swap right in with slight mods if any
nice truck by the way, IMHO run the 250 !!!

It is a trim that grows on you for sure! I love the grille in my '62. That looks like a good solid truck there. I like it!

Re: FNG Introduction

HA! The FNG is already bustin' on the '62 owners! The guns are drawn.....

I'm quite partial to the 60-61 grilles myself.

Nice to see it's gonna be a father/son type deal. WELCOME ABOARD!

Re: FNG Introduction

If you are gonna dream dream big and go with a '63 grill

the '62 grill is fairly rare, so i would think you would be able to unload it rather quickly.

You will love it here.

Re: FNG Introduction

Welcome to the forum.

I don't know if you can modify the '62 grille to accept 2 headlights per side. It might just be easier to swap in a '60 or '61 grill. However there may be a little difference in the grill panel between the '60/'61 and the '62. I don't remember for sure.

Re: FNG Introduction

Welcome!! The grille panel is the same from 60-62. So you just need to swap the grilles, it will bolt in.

Re: FNG Introduction

Welcome.

I agree that the 60-61 grilles look better than the 62. Four headlights are better than 2!

Re: FNG Introduction

thanks guys, it's pretty straight. Some rust in the common areas but no big deal. It came with more than a hoist chain. Had two more heads in the bed, one rebuildable, one boat anchor. 3-4 exhaust mani's all cracked and 2-3 intakes all seem to be crack free. The tranny was back there along with two more bellhousings for the 235. Couple flywheels etc etc etc ya'll get the idea.

Re: FNG Introduction

Welcome from Santa Fe, NM! I will let you slide on the 'lame' comment for now. A '60 or '61 grille will bolt right in. My '62 used to have one, but I went back to the beautiful original grille... Good luck with your project!
