Can someone measure stock rear springs?

I need a height measurement of stock rear springs please.
Or if you have drop springs can you measure those.
I have a pair that are 12" high and need to know how they compare
to stock height.
Thanks
Todd

Re: Can someone measure stock rear springs?

Hey guys.
Even if you have a set of drop springs.
I'd appreciate a measurement.
Just say 2" drop X" tall
Thanks

Re: Can someone measure stock rear springs?

Check the ECE website, if memory serves they had height info listed for stock springs as well as lowered. I recall a measurement of 13" for stock springs however don't remember if that was for a 1/2 or 3/4 ton. Good luck.

Re: Can someone measure stock rear springs?

I measured a set I have in my shed and they're both 12.5". I put drop springs on so I assume these were probably the original 38 year old springs. Closer to 13" is probably what they started out as way back then. The truck is a 71 1/2 ton. Hope this helps.

Re: Can someone measure stock rear springs?

I measured my set that I took off the other day. They measured about 12-3/4"... Remember, these are like 42 years old!

Here ya go.

Thanks guys for all your help.
If anyone else has a set I'd appreciate you chiming in with a measurement.

Re: Can someone measure stock rear springs?

If I can find them I will measure my old springs but my spid for my 71 c 10 said Hvy Susp. The picture I dug up is the new vs old springs for a 4" drop. The thing at the time that got my attention was the old spring was made of heavier stock. Just sayin that may be a difference also in stock springs as to why yours measures 12".

Re: Can someone measure stock rear springs?

I did find my old ones and they do measure 13" and are made of 3/4 " stock. If yours are like 11/16 or 5/8" at 12" , I would guess they are for a 2" drop?

That is because the taller spring will be softer. think of it as a 3 foot bar un coiled versus a 5 foot bar. the 5 foot bar will bend easier. So by using a thicker rod it stiffens it up a bit over a 4" drop spring. the shorter spring is essentially a shorter rod with equal coils so it can be thinner rod. This is where the problem comes in with what he is trying to do. I think he wants a drop from cutting his springs. his measurements might get him in the ball park but more then likely they wont.
Coil spacing, rod diameter, rod length all take in to account of a springs rate and static and installed height.

.
You cannot cut the rear springs as you need the smaller coil on top and bottom.
Here's what I'm trying to do.
I bought a set of springs we thought were a 3" drop.
When I placed them next to the stock springs they were the same height.
When I installed them on my truck, the ride height was the same.
I know the new springs have a smaller diameter rod, but I think that is due to 40 years advancement in metallurgy and heat treating.
Make sense?

how many coils are on each spring? that has a lot to do with them as well.
