viair wire guage

what wire gauge do I use for my air compressor? it is a viair 420c. wiring diagrams that i have found say 4g. it does not make sense since the wire on the compressor if much smaller

I would say 10 gauge.

Keep in mind that the gauge of wire used should be determined by the distance that the compressor is from the power source.

If your compressor is mounted near the battery it will require a smaller gauge wire than if it's mounted on opposite ends of the vehicle.

To small a power wire could lead to fatigue in the compressor as well as potential for overheating the source wire.
