Engine tranny swap question...or 2

I'm wanting to swap out my 292 4speed with a 94 tbi 350. I plan on taking off the tbi and going with a carb. My questions are: Do I have to use a 4l60e or can I put a 700r4 behind it? Can I put a floor shifter on it in place of my manual stick. If so what is a good brand or what will work best. I have a million other questions but I don't want to wear out my welcome right off the bat. I really enjoy this site and enjoy reading others ideas and projects. Thanks for all the help and ideas.

Re: Engine tranny swap question...or 2

If you're going carb on that engine you'll need an intake like the 2104 from Edelbrock. You can easily use a 700r4 behind it, it bolts right up. Now for the shifter you just need to shop around and find the one you want.
