Key Lock Issue
I have a 67 with manual door locks. Today I installed new door handles and new door key locks. (The PO removed the door handles and I did not have the key for the locks.) I lubed the locking mechanism inside the door and have it working smoothly. When I use the key to lock the door, it does pull the knob on the door down and prevents the door from being opened from the inside. But, I can open the door from the outside, when I use the new outside door handle it is not different from when it is unlocked. I have the same problem on both doors. The new door handles are reproductions that I bought from a site vendor.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Craig |

Is the knob going all the way down?
Try pushing in on the doors when locking them. Jim

I doubt very seriously that the doorhandles are at fault. I installed aftermarket door handles on mine and they worked perfectly. We need to get Lockdoc in on this thread.

A little follow-up to the suggestions. I only have a knob on one side, so I do not think the knob is preventing the lock from engaging. I think the reproduction outside door handles are fine. I am thinking when the doors are locked (and working properly), something in the latch mechanism prevents the door handle button from be depressed, hence locking the door from the outside. My manuals don’t have a good schematic of the locking mechanism, and I can not get a good view of it, to much door structure blocking the view. Does anyone have a schematic of the locking mechanism or any additional suggestions?

You don't specifically mention this but are you locking the door from the outside with the key or are you pushing the button down and closing the door? You can't do the latter with these trucks, you have to lock them from the outside with the key, after you close the door. Have you put new weatherstrip on the doors? If so and the doors are tight and hard to close the lock will not work correctly. LockDoc

I have been closing the door then using the key to lock the door. Have not put any new weather striping on the truck. I would not say the door is hard to close, but it isn't easy to close either. Is it possible that the latching mechanism is just worn-out? I can look at trying to realign the latch/strike plate if you thing that will help.

Be sure to mark around it with a fine marking pen first so you know how far you have moved it. I would try 1/16th or 3/32nds at a time. If that is the problem it shouldn't take much. I can't believe both latches would be worn enough that the doors wouldn't lock. LockDoc

Thanks for all the help. Moving the strike plate out about 1/16th of an inch is all it took.

I have a 67 that I'm rebuilding & have posted it under the builds. We are getting ready to install Electric-lift power dr. loks & have come up with a problem already? The rod clamp can't go over the rod as the rod is close to 1/4 & the clamp are for a much smaller rod? I didn't get a chance to call the tech help line, will tomorrow. The power windows, no problems.

You can buy the same type clip for 1/4" rod. You might try the clip from a rod type throttle linkage used on '67 and maybe '68. I think 6 cyl. throttle linkage uses the 1/4" clip too. LockDoc
