Help Me Identify This Part - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

So I need to replace a part that I haven't been able to find in my LMC Truck or my H&H catalog. It is part of the transmission linkage, but I don't know its actual name.

Anyone know what it is called and/or where I can get a new one?

Don't know if you can find these new. Your best best it to find a buddy that can weld up the groove and then grind it til smooth, or next option is to fine another from another truck in good condition, and replace yours. Automatic transmission frame pivot bracket?

oh ooh ooh i love this game.

that is for the auto trans, and ya..i dont think anyone makes those.

on another note, not meaning to hi-jack.. but what has everyone else done besides use this bracket for an auto??

Another option (that I will be using) is to use a locar cable shift linkage and get rid of that bracket.

(I'm going this route because my headers go right through that area)

the 73+ setup swaps over nicely.

Thanks for all the responses, everyone! This is why I just can't get enough of this board!! So many helpful people.

I hadn't seen the lokar solution before. I bet it's cheap.

So what does the 73+ setup look like?

Does anyone have a picture of one in good shape? I'm not sure what it's supposed to look like exactly. I imagine its not supposed to have that groove in the pin. It looks like its worn. Also, is it supposed to be twisted?

except for the grove, that is how it is supposed to be, i think there was 3-4 different ones that came stock. all looking pretty different but ultimately doing the same thing. the one on my swb looked like a P.

Every SB/2wd/auto truck had one like that, should be very easy to find one on the parts board.

I`d call that an automatic linkage frame bracket.I believe Tim Christian has made up some new automatic linkages.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there a difference between the 2wd and 4wd linkage brackets?

When I put an auto in my 1971 4x4 chassis, I used one off of a 1972 4x4 Blazer.

I vaguely remember somebody posting pictures of the 2wd piece and it having the pivot piece being not as far away from frame as on the 4x4 one.

I wouldn't spend any money buying another one. You could weld up the worn spot in a few seconds. If you can't weld, take it to any muffler shop and get them to do it. Regardless, it's gong to be cheaper than buying another one, and any other used one out there is going to be worn too.

Do you have a better pic of the pin? It looks like it might have the same groove in it too. If not, I'd definitely be interested, but if it does - well, that's why i'm looking to replace mine. Hahahaha!

Lokar makes another setup with a rod and eliminated the pivot. its very simple. I put one on mine and it works good

You have any pics of your installation? Surprisingly, its not too expensive either, considering all the parts it replaces. Just wondering how much customization is needed. Right now my truck is apart so can't really visualize where this rod would run.

No pics sorry. Basicaly you replace the existing rod with the new rod(cut to lenght and it hooks to the new lever at the tranny. Now I did have a little trouble in getting the gear indicater to line up but thats about it. The old system works rather well if the parts are not worn because it floats on the rod(the one in the pic that has the groove in it) for engine tranny movement. The Lokar system you might have to have a fairly solid motor mounts(poly or solid). I have new oem engine mounts and a Energy trans mount and have had no issues and that a 454 LS7 TH400.

Yes, the factory C/K series auto linkage setups are different from one another. Here are a couple Id pics.

Here is the linkage on my 66. Took me an hour to install cause I took my time.

I had to buy a longer rod so it would reach. I bought a piece of cold roll at the local steel supply $5. Tapped it and bent the way I wanted. Make sure you get it longer than you want as you will lose length as you bend it. Very good product. Don't forget lock tite on the hex screws to the rod.

Do you have any issues with the engine/tranny combo flexing closer or further away from the body? How about with the indicator lining up?
