Unofficial introduction
Ok so I have been lurking/posting here for awhile but I finally have some pics of my 1961 Apache. I bought it when I was 15 and have had it for 11 years now. I'm in United States Air Force and haven't had the truck in like 8 years its been at my dads house but I'm getting it transported to me soon. I have a built 327 that was in it back in the day but it currently has a 350 in it..(to my surprise) I forgot that it even had a motor in it. As you can see its seen better days it has some nasty black crap all over it...

Welcome, the truck looks cool. Wash that thing and buff the paint and it'll look new.

Re: Unofficial introduction
I agree, nice looking truck. Cool that you've owned it so long. Are you stationed near home now, giving you a chance to work on it?
Funny about the amazing 327/cam sound effects. I was playing one of those trivia games once and the question came up "what's your favorite sound. The "politically correct" expected answer was your childs voice, or a waterfall, or birds in the meadow, etc. My answer was "a 327 with a cam"!! I also loved and miss the old mechanical fuel injection. The constant whistle was really loud, no question which car was fuel injected. Of course compared to modern injection it was tempermental and unreliable. |

Re: Unofficial introduction
I'm from Huntsville AL and when I first went into the Air Force I was stationed in Fairbanks AK, but I'm in Altus OK now so I'm about 13 hours aways but like I said I'm getting it auto transported here as soon as the wife lets me (she understands my passion for cars but she also understands the DEBT it will cause)..... Cause when it gets here I'm going to be getting at least a 15K loan to do it right this time.

Re: Unofficial introduction
Those hoods are really rare, like my 60-61 GMC hood and the fiberglass repop (if still made) are real trashy. Trust me you'll want to keep the hood if at all possible.

Re: Unofficial introduction
Beautiful truck! It seems to be in excellent shape. I dig that hood on it. The older I get the more I like 'original' parts. Good luck and keep us posted.
Thank you serving our country!

61TWUK:
Welcome to the forums from Kansas City, KS. I appreciate your service to our country and I am glad for you and your family, that you are stationed state-side. Your rig looks like a great start and I vote for the "aviation inspired" '60-'61 hood. Thanks for sharing and keep us posted with lots of pictures. Stay safe! |

Re: Unofficial introduction
I love your truck. If you look just right at it, it looks like you could wash it and there would be a brand new '61 Apache on the showroom floor.
Just walk in front of it and say, "Show me." Like Christine.

Its actually going to be hugger orange, white from the windows up, and white grill and bowties in the hood.
