i am thinking of building a truck just to 4 wheel in but i am on a budget i can get a good 4x4 frame from a 79 and a body from a 71 it has a good 350 and a turbo 350 trans but not sure on the transfer case first of all will the auto be a good trans for offroading and how can i tell what kind of transfer case i have. would a bulldog 4 speed be worth a few extra hundred bucks? or is there a better trans. thanks alot guys any responce will be great ill post some pics of the truck when its finished and in action..lol it should be a blast.

The TC could be a NP205 or NP203. The 205 is excellent, the 203 is full time(can be made part time) probably not what you want. I have a SM465 w/ NP205 (4speed w/ granny). As far as the tranny what do you prefer? I've owned/wheeled both types(auto/manual) and I prefer the manual. Though driving on the beach(outer banks, NC) w/ an auto was nice. As far as price you could probably break even by selling your turbo350/?TC and buying a SM465/NP205 combo. Good luck....

I used to wheel with a 350/203 in a 77 and I never had any problems. Had to replace chain in T/C once. But had lots of fun.
