Re: What'll it take?.

I used to have an International Scout II with the removable hard top. I loved to have it off in the summer, but it was a hassle to get three buddies over at the same time to help me take it off. I rigged up four eye bolts in the ceiling of my garage screwed into studs. I used ratchet straps hooked into the eye bolts at one end and the hard top on the other end. Then just work the ratchets to raise the hard top. You could do the same thing with the bed if you need to get it off by yourself. Just a thought. I've never lifted a bed personally, so I don't know how many guys it'll take to do the hard way. Sorry.

Re: What'll it take?.

I had two real big friends come over and we lifted my short bed with OLD wood, water soakes and such. It wasnt easy for us 3 to make it happen but we did it and it also wasnt moved very far from the truck. I like the ratchet strap idea. If you are in a shop, then acome-along with straps could work if attached on an ibeam at the ceiling.

Re: What'll it take?.

That is too funny. My truck came from Overland Park, KS and the white bed came from Omaha, NE. Your's is a more desireable swb fleetside with a big back window, compared to my lwb fleetside small back window.

Re: What'll it take?.

I have 2 ton picker with a 14' reach that I'm going to mount on a 1ton that would lift it easy enough and the ratchet strap idea would work. My only concern is that i don't want to mark the paint in and around the stake pockets, that's why I was considering removing it by hand. It might be best to figure a way to lift it with the picker without marking the paint. Any thoughts on THAT would be welcome

Thanks guys

Re: What'll it take?.

I traded beds on my 63 & 64. Three of us did it with old wood (partially) still in and tailgate off. If I remember right, one guy on the headboard and one on each side at the rear. One thing I do remember; it was heavy. (wear gloves)

Re: What'll it take?.

They are pretty heavy, go with 4 guys. Remove the rear tires and drop the rear diffential as low as you can that way you won't be lifting the bed up over the tires.

On Tuesday I lifted my '65 short step bed off (again, for about the 5th time) and used a 2 ton engine hoist with the mast extended out as far as it will go.

To prevent hurting the paint remove the bed mounting bolts, pull the bed back about 3 inches and then install some long eyebolts through the original (2) front ad (2) rear mounting holes.

I remove the tailgate and run the lift in from the tailgate end of the truck, not the side. That way if the bed rocks around a bit it won't hit the side of the bed.

Good luck and don't blow your rear o-ring seal, if ya know what I mean.

Re: What'll it take?.

When I picked up a fleetside bed, we got it done with 3 guys. One of those guys was literally twice the size of me and the second guy though
