Got to do something with the bed floor
Ok,
need some help, How many of you guys did your own bed liner? I would like to do mine soon because this NC weather is not good for my AZ truck. My questions are: 1. What was the difficulty level? 2. If you bought a kit, did it come with everything you needed? or did you have to buy something else to get the job done. 3. Pics of how it turned out would be nice. 4. Would you recommend it to someone else? Thanks, Smitty

Re: Got to do something with the bed floor
That kit looks really good. Did it come with everything? or do I need to buy a spray gun for it?

Re: Got to do something with the bed floor
Funny you bring this up. I was up late last night researching which do-it-yourself liner to use. I bought two gallons of Herculiner today at Advance Auto. It is normally $89.99 for the one gallon kit. It's on sale right now for $69.99. It comes with a roller, a brush, and a scotch brite pad. From all the reading I did everyone says that success is all in the prep work. Get some heavy grit sandpaper, a paint pan, a paint mixer attachment for your drill, some blue painters tape, plastic sheet, maybe a pole to attach to the roller and some xylene to clean up messes.
I'm going to do mine this weekend if the weather permits. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'll get some befores and afters so you can see how it turns out. I'll probably do the prep little by little during the week and if it's dry over the weekend I'll get the rolling done.
22 years USAF here... almost done.

I Vote for the Hericuliner. Here are the photos. Take your time with the prep. And as stated before mask everything. Also buy & use a good respirator. The stuff smells bad!

Re: Got to do something with the bed floor
Ok, here is where it started and after I prepped it. The kit comes with a scotch brite pad and tells you to take all the gloss off. Well, anything worth doing is worth overdoing in my book so I used my angle grinder and a fiber pad and roughed it all up. I had to knock the rust down to bare metal anyway and this was a lot faster and easier on the fingers.

Re: Got to do something with the bed floor
And here is where it ended up. I layed the second coat on pretty thick because I wanted the finished product to be thick. If I had it to do over I would have just done three coats. Two gallons was more than enough for three coats. I did one thin coat and one thick coat and I still have better than a quart left over. It wasn't hard, went on pretty quickly and easily but tape up everything you don't want covered and have some MEK or Xylol to clean up drips and spills. Oh, get some latex gloves too.
Does it look better than Line-x or Rhino? Probably not. Is it as durable? Yet to be seen. Is it cheaper? Absolutely. I have $150 in this one instead of the $500 I have in Line-x on the GMC and it looks a hell of a lot better than it did. If it gets scratched up I have some left over to fix it. Good luck with yours.

Re: Got to do something with the bed floor
I used Raptor spray liner on mine. I did a ton of research and it seemed to be one of the best DIY kits out there. I found a lot of negative reviews with most of the roll on ones.
Raptor is a two part mix, you mix in the hardner and spray, roll or brush on. Once dry it seems to be very solid like Line X or Rhino Liner. Key with any of them is prep. Must be VERY clean. Make sure you use a wax/grease remover as the last step and let dry before applying anything. Bed floor before During clean up Bed floor after

I used SEM tintable liner, it's a spray in and looks great, you can have it color matched to you truck.
