85 Shortbox Low and not so slow
My 85 started life with a regular shortbox, a manual transmission and a 4.3L V6. It now has a newer stepside box, a 350, and a TCI TH350 race transmission. It used to be my dd year round but now I just use it to cruise around and race at the nearest dragstrip (2 1/2 hours away)

Re: 85 Shortbox Low and not so slow
I like the look of the truck overall. And not to shabby time there. I think mine will run about that in the 100 ft.

Re: 85 Shortbox Low and not so slow
I built a 350 for it with AFR 195 Eliminator heads and Speedpro forged pistons. On that pass I was spraying a 150 shot but it didn't pull as hard as I thought so I put the bottle on a gauge and it was only reading 600 psi. It should be a minimum 900 psi. It was a cool day and I don't have a bottle warmer yet so I guess it was the best I could do. In the rear all I have is the stock suspension and slicks. I was surprised how well it hooked. But I only have 3.42 gears so that is probably part of the reason. When I bought those gears I was still wanting to drive the truck and get good mileage. I am getting 17-18 mpg so not too bad. That is all going to change soon. I am back halfing the truck and increasing the cubic inches either by stroking my smallblock or starting fresh with a bigblock.

Re: 85 Shortbox Low and not so slow
lol i'm not sure about the center caps. Actually they are Centerline Convo Pros 15x15. I am still trying to decide between a 4link and ladder bar rear suspension. Leaning towards the ladder bars

Re: 85 Shortbox Low and not so slow
Unfortunately not yet. My truck is hibernating for the winter since I don't have a place to work on it. For now I'll just have to gather parts and plan how to set up the rear suspension

Re: 85 Shortbox Low and not so slow
Finally got some work done on the truck. I replaced the Mallory box with a MSD 6al and a nitrous timing retard. They got mounted behind my glove box door. I put the slicks back on and took it to the track. I ran a 13.0 at 102. It wasn't running right but I still managed to pull off my best 60 foot time, 1.86. I found out that one spark plug was bad. The spark was jumping from the boot straight to the plug across the porcelien. So today I replaced the plugs and wires. I had some plug wire brackets I hadn't put on yet so this was the perfect time.
I also replaced my sad looking alternator brackets with this setup
