Rally Wheel Question......

Here is the deal, I want to do like Big Al did on his recent wheel change (stagger rallys, with 15x7 up front). I found one rally which I thought was a 15x7, but it measures 6.5" inside bead to inside bead, with a 4" BS. How many different rallys were made? I've seen some on ebay that are 7" inside to inside, but they have a 4.5" BS. I'm just trying to tuck the fronts a little more so I can drop it another inch. Thanks in advance.

Re: Rally Wheel Question......

Hey Nick
I dont know about the measurements or how many different ones are out there but I remember reading about just using two van rallies up front and two truck rallies in the back. Remember that I am trying to trade two van rallies for two truck rallies just in case you want to trade.

The ones I sent you before are 15x8...

Re: Rally Wheel Question......

Sorry Zeke. That's not correct. The industry method of measuring wheel widths is inside bead to inside bead.
This from Coker's site for instance:

Re: Rally Wheel Question......

Rims are measured from the inside of the beads. I believe there is a 6.5", 7" and 8". The 8" were generally on trucks from 73 and up.

Albert I will keep that in mind, I appreciate it. Albert, would you mind measuring your van rallies when you get a chance? get me the B.S. and inside bead to inside bead. Thanks brotha!

That is what I thought I remember reading somewhere, that is how I've been measuring them.

All of mine have 16 slots.

I definitely have a 6.5" wheel then, Is that a truck rally or a van rally or was there a difference? I ask because of the differences in the backspacing I'm running into.

Re: Rally Wheel Question......

Van rallyes are 6.5" wide. Truck rallyes are 7" or 8" wide. The size should be stamped on the inside of the wheel.

Re: Rally Wheel Question......

Sorry for the hijack.

Are the trim rings used on the 8" ralleys the same for the 7" ones or do the 7" ones have a narrower trim ring?

You can use 2" or 3" trim rings on either wheel. But the 2" look better on the 7" wheels, and the 3" look better on the 8" wheels....IMO

Kinda like this, its on the drum side of the wheel usually under an inch of brake dust and grime.

6 lug rallys have different number of slots than 5 lug rally do.

Thanks. I have someone semi local that would like to trade 2 7" for 2 8" wheels I have but he doesn't have trim ring. I have a full, nice set of 3" wide and didn't want to be hung out trying to find narrow ones to fit. If I can use the 3" wide one all around, I can do that until I found a narrow set.

Thanks for the info!!!

Re: Rally Wheel Question......

There are 2 different style ralleys.

5-lug
15x6.5 (van ralleys)
15x7
15x8

6-lug (like hottrucks has in his picture)
99% of them are 15x8
They do make a 6-lug 15x7,... but they are rare.

You're not the first to ask me this and if you were in SoCal, we could do this. I don't want to ship wheels that will cost me as much in shipping as what I paid for the set. The guy I talked to in the past lived in LA area with me in San Diego. We would meet half way to do the trade.

Thanks for asking though.

Nate I found the measurement stamp on the back of the wheel, it reads 7", but when I measure the wheel like you did in the pic it measures 6.5" between the beads. I guess that is what a 7" wheel measures.

Post a pic of your wheel.
The 6.5 wheels have a different offset than the 7's.
Which wheel are you looking for?

That's a 6.5" van ralley.
If you are unsure,... just do all your shopping with a tape measure.

Thanks lolife, that is what I figured I would have to do to get a matching wheel. I hope this will tuck it a little more like I want.

Re: Rally Wheel Question......

I have 6-lug rallies that I believe are 15x7 front and 15x8 rear. Tires are mounted so determining exact width is difficult, however the back spacing (well, "front" spacing) is noticeably different and the rear tires are pretty effin large. Mine are 5 hole - they look more like the car wheels. I'm currently looking for trim rings and it seems like the fronts need 2 1/2 inch deep rings and the rears 3 1/2 inch. I can find 2 1/2, but not 3 1/2. I could be measuring wrong. Pics of the truck are here http://chevy.jeromio.com. Can anyone clarify? What's the proper way to measure for the correct ring size?
