What's the difference in lower A-arms?

I'm not sure there is a difference. The ball joints changed in 71. I put the 71 ball joints in my 69 a-arms without any problem. The bushings are the same part number between 69 and 71.

I am curious too. I have read posts where some turning radius is lost with dics spindles on older trucks. Anyone know?

The stops are different so the radius is shorter I just cut mine to match the newer one as I had it together before I found Out .. Good Luck

I have 71 lower arms on my 69, so I havent run into the problem myself........but have talked with several guys that have. The 71-up balljoints will fit in the 67-70 arms, but the steering stops differ & will shorten the turning radius. If you have the truck assembled, you can grind the stops on the spindles, or modify the stops on the arms. Good luck....crazyL

Anyone have any further info or pics. The thing is I have access to an A-arm off a pre-71, and I will be able to do any necessary adjustments to the arm while it's off. I'd appreciate any further info I can get on this........Thanks

I don't have any pics, but I'll have to go along with what crazylonghorn had to say on the subject.

This much I do know. My '72 LWB truck (all factory front disc/rear drum) has a much tighter turning radius than my '67 SWB truck (presently 6-lug, 4 wheel drum brakes).

I couldn't vouch for what lower A-arms that the '67 has on it.

I WILL be changing out the front suspension in favor of that off of a '72 plus adding ECE drop spindles and front anti-sway bar - real soon.

From what I've been able to gather the length of the upper and lower A-arms are the same from '67 to '72. The ball joints did change in either '71 or '72 but will still mount right into older A-arms without modding.

The difference is, therefore, the steering stops.

Don't know if I added anything, but I can hope.
