Front bumper 72
Any easy way to remove the 6 original bolts that hold the bumper on. I have sprayed them good with penetrating spray several times .I wish they would just break when I try to loosen them . The first one backed out good til the square part would not hold any more. Any help much appreciated , I will try again tomorrow if I have time.

Re: Front bumper 72
Tighten them back up and take a wire brush over the threads to clean the rust and junk off. A wire wheel on a air tool works the best.
If the bolt turns freely, you can try cutting a slot in the head of the bolt with a cut off wheel (on the outside). Then you can hold it from turning with a flat head screw driver or a flat tip pry bar.... Hope this helps.

They break better when you tighten the snot out of them. I have loosened them by clamping a steel bar over the head to keep the square part in the slot but it was more trouble than it was worth.

If they are that bad, tighten them till they break...

Re: Front bumper 72
you can carefully grind the heads off with a small cutoff wheel too

Re: Front bumper 72
Last weekend I removed the front bumper from my 67. I have very little experience working on these trucks, so take that into account. I ended up using my grinder with a flap disc (looks like layered sandpaper), to remove the bolt heads. Once I removed about 95% of the head, I hit the bolt with a punch to push it through. A little more grinding, and I was able to punch the bolts through. It took some time, but I did not damage the bumper, and it was a nice day to be outside working on the truck.

Re: Front bumper 72
I just replaced both my front and rear bumpers and were they a PITA. I soaked the nuts with Liquid Wrench overnight, (the liquid not the spray) and got them off with a 3/4 socket and a 2ft. breaker bar. I pushed on the heads to keep them from turning.

Re: Front bumper 72
I just finished installing the front bumper after repainting it. It sure was easier going on than coming off. My budget is low so all Im doing is little things that dont cost anything using stuff I had on the shelf.
