Heated coils = no good...the drop shackles are fine however...despite the crude bed clearance.

you should have two jack stands under the front of that truck and not one...especially if you're going to be on the side without one...just noticed that...

I didn't even notice that...I was eyeballing the shackle as that is what was centered in the picture.

Did they tighten down the shackle THEN try to attach the spring and realize it was too long to bolt up? I would assume if they bolted everything together loosly, then came back and tightened things down, they wouldn't have had to "modify" the leaf spring.

Either that, or they have the HD springs (longer) on a originally LD spring (shorter) truck.

It also looks like a bumper bracket bolt is missing? The bump stop on the LCA is also missing.

I only see one jackstand as well. It is positioned near the middle of the front crossmember. Always use 2 jackstands and let the jackstands support the load when you are under it.

Almost all of the lowered trucks I have looked at locally have been lowered just like yours.

Until a spring, weakened by the heat, breaks.

Re: found this while welding mufflers back! is ths scary or what??

the two jack stands are on one side of the truck...granted, I didn't see the other jack stand until you pointed it out, but the one that's near the middle is not where it will prevent the truck from falling on him I wouldn't think...

Re: found this while welding mufflers back! is ths scary or what??

yea, its pretty scary! and there are two jack stands, the trucks a arm mounting point is setting on them(idk what its called, its a long cylinder the lower a-arm mounts to) and the truck is solid on them, id never work on something that low, or even period if it wasnt held right, and the reason for melting the leaf was to get more drop, and you guys should see the coil compressed, wow, it is pretty bad, i had a set of extra leafs and springs for it from a parts truck, but am waiting to replace it all for when i buy a drop kit, i dont want a stock truck, so i was also contemplaing putting airbags all the way around, not anything major, just to replace springs, and give a little adjustment to the ride

Re: found this while welding mufflers back! is ths scary or what??

I would think those leaf springs would have the "pinion angle" all hosed up.

Re: found this while welding mufflers back! is ths scary or what??

I have seen shackles sticking through the bed floor on a 88-98 before.
When my brother bought his 77 K10 it had 4" Rancho springs up front that had been heated in a "M" shape to lower it down to match the stock 3/4 ton rear springs. ghetto....

That shackle looks to alot more than a standard 2 inch. My Bell tech only has three holes.
