Tools to put on your Christmas list

Merry Christmas Folks from the house of Mr 48 Chev.

I'd like to suggest a few items to add to your Christmas lists for those who may not have them in your tool box.

The good thing is that all can be picked up at Sears, O'Reilly's or Autozone although I would probably prefer the ones from Sears.

A timing light, The good ones run about 60 bucks.

A vacuum gauge/tester A valuable tool on these older engines to test state of tune and engine condition.

A compression gauge to test compression on engines.

A digital multimeter to test the electrical system. Some have the dwell meter function that allows you to set the points.

A 12 V test light. The good one is under 15.00 even at NAPA

Those are the items that one needs to be able to check out his/her truck and sort through many or most issues with engine running conditions or electrical problems.

There are always others that a guy can use too.

Craftsman tool sets on sale. A great way to fill a tool box and easy shopping for someone who is buying for you.

Those are some good ideas, I only have one of those; the multimeter. But my meter is a fluke meter it doesn't have the dwell function on it. So I guess I could use them all.

Re: Tools to put on your Christmas list

All good ideas. I did have my wife buy me ( under my supervision) a used mig for Christmas. She's mad that there is nothing to put under the tree for me, but I am real happy that it is in my garage!

Tell her you sure would like one of those auto darkening helmets to go with your welder? A new set of leathers for when ya gotta weld underneath yer truck?

Re: Tools to put on your Christmas list

vise grips. can you ever have too many vise grips?

if you guys have some extra cash I highly recommend the best test light ever made. Power Probe III. the only way they could improve it would be to add pulse width measurement.

Re: Tools to put on your Christmas list

I've posted this picture before. These are some nice stocking stuffers.
#1 is a distributor wrench. Yes any old combination wrench will work but once you use the correct tool you'll never go back. The one in the picture is a snap-on that I picked up at a used tool store for less than $20.

#2 is a brake bleeder tool. Same as #1. Any old wrench will work but this one works better. You can get this little gem new for less than $10 at most parts stores.

#3 is a tool that removes the horseshoe clips that hold your window crank and inside door handle on. I owned my Chevelle for 10 years or so before I bought this thing. It too was less than $10 and worth every penny.

Another tool you should own is the Snap-on wiper removal tool. Andy4639 posted a picture of it once. I immediately ordered it and couldn't be happier with it. Again, you can use big flat screwdrivers and towels on the cowl so you don't scratch your paint. OR you can just put this inexpensive tool in your tool box and spend 5 seconds on each wiper arm with the correct tool and not worry about your paint. I stole the picture from Andy's post.

Re: Tools to put on your Christmas list

number three is a waste of a tool ,a shop rag can pop off the horseshoe clips off in a second
now thats old school techniques
