Stereo output power
Gotta quick question for you guys that know your stuff about stereos. I have a Kenwood KRC 204cassette deck that has a power rating of 30 x 4. I have been running 2 , 6x9 JVC 2 way 100W speakers, along with 2 , 4" 40W JVC spekers for the past couple years. I am wondering if I am able to run a sub off this deck or will I require an amp. As far as it looks, this small deck is only mad for a 4 speaker set up and doesn't have the necessary plug ins for an amp.Hmmmmmm might just be better off buying a new CD player for it eh.

Yep Tim, I would go for the new head unit. All of the new ones come with at least one pre-out for adding at least one amp!

It's possible to run a sub, but just like you said you would be better off with a newer unit with the RCA outputs.

yup, like the other guys said. If you want to run any kind of half way decent sub, you will need an amp to go with it. I've tried running even little 8" subs w/ no amp and it wouldn't even power that.

You have to use an amp to power subs. It's because they are made to move air. If you can't power them enough they can't move enough air for you to hear them. It's silly to try to run a sub with no amp. Although, when I was a teenager, I tried and learned the hard way. Man, that makes me sound old.... really I'm only 25!
Anyway, go with the new CD player. you know you want one... |

you will need a amp for decent sound, with the reciever you got, you can get a line level converter for the rca output issue. they run about $8 at walmart for the cheap one....

you do need an amp for sure. if you want to keep your current cassette player, buy an amp that has "speaker level inputs." With these, you can splice wires of one set of speakers and use that to put signal to your amp. This will allow you to avoid messing with RCA wires.
