Best way to repaint 69 and 70 grill

Ok I had my grill polished and looks rather nice but now the black paint is gone what is the best way to redo this so it doesn't look cheap or shoty?

ok i primed it with rattle can rustolium automotive sandable primer after i taped up the chrome then i painted it blue with tractor enamel. i like it but if it chips easy. it works for me though

You want to tape off what you dont want painted scuff it up where you want paint i would use barrel black from summit racing it gives a satin look not to flat and not to shiny paint it put a good 3 layers with a flash time of 15 min between coats should look great and not chip

Be sure to use either the blue or green masking tape they leave a nicer looking edge

If you decide to rattle can, I would choose a lacquer paint. The factory would have used similar back in the day. If at all possible, get paint mixed up that's a two part paint and spray out of a gun. Trevor

It takes a lot of time but if you tape it off really good with that blue painter's tape it will come out pretty good with spray paint:

This might sound cheap and lazy, but they make black decals that fit in the letter spots.

It takes a lot of time, but in the end it is so worth it. We did the same project on my '69 this summer, and after an hour or two of taping, followed by prep and paint, it looked like new!

I had mine polished this summer and had the same issue, the guy at the polishing place said to just prime and spray it, then take a block of wood with a paper shop towel wrapped around it, and spray it with WD40. while the paint is still wet rub straight across it and it will leave a perfect line w/o having to tape everything off.

Now all that said, I have not tried it yet, it seemed plausible but I just haven't done it yet. I have used WD to clean rattle can over spray before but not in this instance. I asked if brake cleaner would work better because it does not leave a residue but he seemed to think it might dull the shine.
