factory case color for tranny and transfer?
On a 72 Blazer what were the case color of the driveline components. Specifically the SM465 trans, NP205 transfer, adapter between the two, as well as the bell housing and dust covers

Re: factory case color for tranny and transfer?
I think the tranny is a dark grey and the transfercase is really similar to the red metal primer color. That's the best I can do.

Re: factory case color for tranny and transfer?
That is the color I am going to use but on other discussions I have seen some say it is closer to a dodge red/orange? I am keeping my transmission natural/silver Not sure on the adapter but I am using an advance adapters one which is aluminum so it will stay natural.
I am having my transfer case powdercoated at the moment.

Re: factory case color for tranny and transfer?
My 465/221 combo seemed to both have red on them, so I went with that. Can't confirm that it's 100% correct...

Don't know about factory, but I think I'll go flat black.

Re: factory case color for tranny and transfer?
So the sm465, adaptor, and np205 were all red? My assumption is the bellhousing and dust cover were engine orange or were they red also?

Re: factory case color for tranny and transfer?
Bellhousing is Chevy Engine Orange. I went with flat black on the SM465 but that was on a C/10. I've seen an SM465/T221 in a boxcar rusty red.

Re: factory case color for tranny and transfer?
There were some pic floating around not too long ago, I tried to search for them but couldn't find anything. The engine was orange, the tranny were a different color (maybe black or silver???), I don't remember about the adapter, but I remember the NP205 being that dark red/maroon that others have mentioned. It was allegedly a factory restoration. I just remember that dark red Tcase sticking out in my mind because it was a color I had never seen anywhere else on a Chevy drivetrain (doesn't mean it wasn't more common, I had just never seen it).

Re: factory case color for tranny and transfer?
There area few chassis pictures on http://brochures.slosh.com/ but they appear to be painted to show different parts - like the yellow power steering.

Re: factory case color for tranny and transfer?
Have that factory 1970 bro, and agree they just showed the colors to show the components off. Never seen a power steering unit painted yellow! Still think I will go with flat black, then Por 15 black on everything but the motor which will be chevy orange!

Yep, Rack Man's was the one I was thinking about. Thanks for finding it for me.

Re: factory case color for tranny and transfer?
I went with chevy orange on the transfer case. No paint on the automatic transmission. Look nice with the chevy orange on the motor and the transfer case and no paint on the aluminum transmission.
