Getting My Truck Tomorrow~!!!
Okay, I've worked out a ride, got the money together, Got directions to my mom's house. I think I'm ready. I don't have anything packed; but will in a little bit. I won't have the truck because I wont have the truck tagged. But I'm taking my new digicam, so I'll be able to update you guys on Sunday night. Hehehe. But I am taking my tools. and I'll be replacing the motor
from the truck(not sure what it is) with a 283 from one of these trucks. The truck has a 3 on the tree. I'll be taking the clutch and whatnot from the old motor and putting it on the 283. I know this isn't advisable, but it's just to get it back up to my house. The truck has been sitting for a while. Is there anything I can do to unlock the brakes? Without pulling them apart? And what can I put in the gastank to help with the old gas. Any little tips would be appreciated. I know, I'm an amature and this is my first truck!!! Thanks guys. Brandon |

Just drain the old gas out. Could save a lot of problems. Its just the hose on the underside of the cab. Pull it off and then let it drain and reconnect and pour your new gas in it and your set.

lol, I remember when I got mine, it had the provision for an auxiliary tank (no tank, just the hoses etc.) and the PO tied off the hose with some baling wire!! There were splits in the other hose too that he reinforced with electrical tape and more baling wire. Congratulations I know the exact feeling you undoubtedly have right now. And good luck, you're going to need it.
Edit: the hose, unless the tank has been moved, should be directly under the cab where the tank is located and run forward to the fuel pump. John

congrats man, you must be excited! I remember when I first got my blazer. i had to drive it home using the e brake! If you have a problem with the brakes sticking try pounding on the wheel with a hammer. I've done it before on a vw and it worked fine. have fun with the ride!

Okay guys. I bought the truck, but don't got the truck!
I expected to get a lot more done over the weekend but it turned out that I just got to pay for the truck on Saturday, then today, We just got the truck to my grandpa's and the replacement motor unbolted but not lifted. I'll update with some pics a little later tonight. It's a '67 Big window longbed 1/2 ton, really not much of the things on the truck can be left alone because of damage, but that's cool because I had no intention of ever leaving anything on it alone anyway. Here's one of the engine. Old guy I bought it from said that his son put in a 305. Maybe that's why it had a heart attack. Hmmm. Any thoughts on putting this intake and carb on my 283 that's going in it? Would it be too big for that little V8? Sorry it took me so long to update.

Oh, BTW, does anyone know where to hook a chain to pull one of these friggin trucks without tow hooks??? My stepdad's dad bent the crossmember when he was pulling it. Nice huh?

i have always wrapped around the crossmember with no problems. at least most of the metal is stright u just got rust to deal with. not twisted metal good luck and have fun.

Well okay my problem was that all 4 tires were flat and we were driving up a iced out driveway. Paul(stepdad's dad) kept getting a running start at it, by almost backing into my bumber then going full throttle. We ended up having to hook a GMC to the front of the Dodge to pull it. Maybe next time I'll put some good tires on it. lol.

And here's the back. It has a pretty big dent in the top. But it has a big window. hehehe. Sorry guys if I'm just going on about it, but I'm hyped as hell. It may look like nothing to you dudes that have phat @$$ trucks but to me, it's a start of a beautiful thing.

Brabra, about using that carb and manifold of the 305 to put on your 283? Dont!
I have a 283 in my 69 C-10, I have an Edlebrock 600, and im replacing the GM manifold with an Edlebrock. Trust me you will be a lot happier with the new set-up then with the old. |

Well I don't plan on keeping the 283 for long. But as I build the truck I'm going to be running the 283. Why don't you suggest using the intake? Is it bad or what? I'll probably rebuild the carb and run the 4 bbl intake on the 283 for a while. Is it too big for the 283? Thanks for your thoughts.

Well just from looking at the picture, you have a lot of engine cleaning to do.
A carb rebuild out her in Cali is from 100 to 150 depending to the kind of carb it is. Unless you do it yourself. I had a rebuilt quadrajet on my 283, and it ran just ok. When I installed the Edlebrock, it was a major difference. A 600 is not to big for that motor, its just right. Also the GM manifold is restricted as the Edlebrock is free flowing and will help flow much better. On a small 283, its bad enough we have little to no torque, no since of choking what little power we have. Now if I find a 64 Nova SS, with my 283 in that would be a nice street car. In our trucks, their nice get around motors. |

First looking at it, I was thinking it was pretty far gone; but if you blasted it, straightened the metal, and painted it, you'll have a good-looking rig. It looks mostly like surface rust to me, not a lot of cancer. That interior, now, is going to need some work. All in all though, good find.

Well not having an aftermarket intake to go on it, would the 4 bbl manifold and carb run better than the 2 bbl carb and intake. I think if I sit down with the carb and a rebuild kit I can do it then have someone help me tune it. Yea it has a lot of work to go on it. I hope I have fun. Hehehehehehehe.

Hey wow, the dash is uncut. I forgot to mention that. This is a picture of my brother looking like he's in a lowrider... Low-ri-der don't use much gas now. But maybe that's because it wont run. lol.
