Add my name to the list. Sounded too easy so I googled his name. If it's too good to be true it probably is!

I need to remember that for the next time I put something on craigslist. I get 5-6 of those cashiers check scams every time.

Re: SCAM??? emails from forbes anderman

You would think they could come up with a new scam by now. I guess it must work on somebody.

Generally, the way it works is they send you a fake cashiers check for some amount. Then you deposit it in your bank. Next they send you an email about how hard times have gotten since sending you the money. They ask for a refund to be wired from your bank account to theirs. Naturally, they are willing to sacrifice a few $k to cover your inconvenience. A few days later you get notice from the bank that the cashiers check is no good. Bam - You are out the money that you "refunded" and some Nigerian scamer is living like a king.

Check out http://www.ebolamonkeyman.com/ for a funny response to the typical scamer.

Re: SCAM??? emails from forbes anderman

They also will send a fake cashiers or company check that is substantially more than the selling price. When you email them back, they will tell you to just refund the difference to their bank account and keep an extra amount for your trouble. Obviously, the check bounces and you are out whatever you sent them. Dead give a ways are no phone number
provided and an "agent" or buddy will pick it up. A guy on the Harley Heritage Springer site sells used gulf carts on CL. He gets lots of these attempted scams. He goes along and asks them to make out the check to such notables as "Fred Flintstone" "Barney Rubble" etc. He then puts the checks up on his wall. He says it costs them money to send the checks so he attempts to exact some revenge on these ba$$tards. They can work because people are greedy.

Yuppers, cash green money placed in the hand. If the buyer doesn't want to carry cash, you meet at or in the bank to do the deal.

Last car I sold for real money the buyer and I happened to use the same banking chain so we met at the bank, he drew the money out and I turned around and deposited it back in my account. It worked out good for both of us.
