Need new center link for '68 C-10
Have been tearing down my '68 C10 with a buddy at his shop. Bought all new MOOG stuff for the front end with the exception of the center drag link which I was going to re-use as I am told they seldom wear out and only require replacement if damaged.
Somehow the old/stcok factory center link and everything attached to it is just plain gone. The old FE stuff was tossed by somebody...but the center link must have gone with it. I have checked with AutoZone, Advance, O'Reilly, Classic Industries and LMC and nobody has one. Help...I am ready to break out the 12 gauge. haha Where can I get a new one? Thanks in advance for any help. Other info: Have power steering if that matters. 305 V8 with 700R and McCaughy 2.5" dropped spindles with 1" DMJ front coil drop and McCaughy 5 lug front disc swap kit. Tom

Re: Need new center link for '68 C-10
Used or new? Is it in good shape?
What would you sell it for? Shipping to 35634 (Florence, AL) ...probably would fit into one of those "if it fits it ships boxes from the post office" that cost about $10 anywhere in the US. You can either PM me or email me @ bamafrost@yahoo.com. Thanks. Tom

I believe you have to get them used as no one I am aware of makes a new one.

Re: Need new center link for '68 C-10
its from a 70.
there is nothing that can go wrong with them unless you bend it. they flat rate shipping boxes arent nearly big enough. ill do $35 for it. but i have to make sure it hasent been sent to china yet as scrap iron. i swaped out my entire front clip and steer and threw it all in the scrap bin at work, i wont know till monday. |

Re: Need new center link for '68 C-10
Are the '70's interchangeable with the '68"s? Thanks. Let me know if it's in China. If so I'll probably see it at Wal-Mart soon. haha
Let me know...thanks. Tom

I had one I would have given you, sat in my shop for years, then I scrapped it.
One from a 70 will work.

Re: Need new center link for '68 C-10
I know it may sound dumb, but make sure you put it back on the right way (ends facing forward)... bought my truck with it installed backwards. The outside tire crabbed real bad when turning sharply and everyone (at least 2 alignment shops) thought it was because the truck was lowered. Only after breaking a tie-rod and taking a picture to show here was it noticed that the center link was backwards (another great reason to be part of this forum).

Thanks Mondo
No such thing as a dumb bit of advice. Hey, if I had 1/2 a brain I wouldn't have "lost" it in the first place. Thanks for the heads up. Tom

Re: Need new center link for '68 C-10
No photo. Sorry. It's the mostly straight center drag link...ends are bent in toward the front of the vehicle to accept the tie rods. If I can find a similar image on this site I'll send you a PM withit shown. Thanks for responding. Tom

Try Pull a Part South in Atlanta. 3 C10's hit the yard last month and they are prime for the picking. They have a 69, 70, and 72 all LWB.

Re: Need new center link for '68 C-10
No company makes them. We looked forever. We can get them made but the minimum order is too high for a part that you can still dig up used.

Re: Need new center link for '68 C-10
Thanks for the input...if a few different options on the board don't occur I am off to Hotlanta with a toolbox in my hand (sung to "Gwanta Alabama with a Banjo on my knee")
Thanks. Tom

If 2 tons of fun cannot find his centerlink I have one off of a 1968 GMC truck.

Re: Need new center link for '68 C-10
In case no one answered
Im pretty sure you can use a 73 and up if you change all steering comonents (Idler, Inner and outer TRE's, sleeves ect) and ream spindles...or put 73+ spindles on it. But NO, 73= wont just bolt in, they ends are smaller and i think the width may be different 71 and 72 might work as a direct bolt in |
